ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Cook will be responsible for cooking and baking, for ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and that resident satisfaction and nutritional and special diet needs are met – in the absence of the Dining Services Director. The Cook shall be an active participant in the dining services team and will be the acting dining services supervisor, in the Dining Services Directors absence. Ideally, will have experience in both institutional & restaurant style cooking, is able to cook and bake from scratch utilizing fresh ingredients and is able to manage time well. Someone who is kind, works as a team well and makes work fun will fit right in!
Essential Responsibilities:
- Responsible for opening up the department when reporting on duty. Checks the department organization and sanitation. Checks the operation of all equipment (refrigerator temperatures, etc.) Reports malfunctioning equipment as soon as possible to the manager.
- Responsible for preparation and serving the breakfast and noon meals as indicated on the menu.
- Responsible for recording meal census following each meal.
- Responsible for checking all deliveries that come in during the absence of the supervisor, checking for quality, quantity and proper storage.
- Is responsible for the quality and temperature of all foods offered for the breakfast and noon meals (Temperatures to be recorded according to policy).
- Is responsible for the attractiveness of the meals-all plates to be garnished.
- Completes the daily cleaning task as assigned to the position.
- Responsible for the clean-up of the food production areas following the service of breakfast and noon meals. Store and label all leftovers, leaving an inventory for the supervisor to plan into the following say’s menu.
- Responsible to assist with adjusting the recipes-recording the adjustments so as to eliminate leftovers.
- Responsible to utilize or to freeze appropriately to eliminate waste, including foods from all meals.
- Responsible for checking with food service workers to assess the progress in completing of assigned tasks, make necessary adjustments.
- Responsible for briefing all wait staff regarding the menu choices and special diet foods for the meal. Make suggestions as to how entrée choices can be presented to residents for acceptability.
- Complete all pre-prep as assigned.
- Responsible to follow written policies and procedures. Follow sanitation and safety procedures during the working day. Follow through on resident rights, attend in services and other training classes. Work to meet goals of the community with enthusiasm and spirit of cooperation.
- To perform other duties that may be set forth by the management company or specified by the Community Administrator or Insight President, completing all assigned duties which may change from time to time according to resident’s needs, staffing levels and working circumstances.
- Responsible for closing the department when leaving duty. Checks the department organization and sanitation. Checks the operation of all equipment (refrigerator temperatures, etc.) Reports malfunctioning equipment as soon as possible to the manager.
- Responsible for helping the A.M. cook serve the noon meals.
- Responsible for assisting with the preparation of the noon dessert for the following day as assigned by the supervisor.
- Responsible for inventory, labeling and storing all leftovers. Leave inventory for the A.M. cook.
- Responsible for closing the department; turning off all equipment and lights, and securing the department for the night.

Requirements:Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age
- Meet requirements for criminal history screening (Fingerprint Card)
- Pass Abuse Registry Check (where applicable)
- Pass required drug/alcohol screenings
- Food Handler Card
- CPR/1st Aide Certificate
Physical Requirements
- This is a physically active position
- Ability to walk continually throughout the day
- Ability to push and pull dining carts and carry deliveries
- Visual and auditory acuity within normal limits
- Bending, kneeling and occasionally reach above the shoulder level and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to use handheld device and other computer equipment for point of sale orders
- Ability to use commercial kitchen equipment safely and be exposed to heat and cold temperatures
