Position Description
The CCSF Library welcomes applications to join its team of committed library professionals. The Library & Learning Resources Department operates libraries at the Ocean Campus and several locations throughout San Francisco. Part-time librarians are expected to work a combination of day, evening and/or weekend assignments to meet departmental needs.
Job Duties
1. Provide in-person or virtual research/reference assistance that will assist students to develop and demonstrate information competency and critical thinking skills through their ability to effectively acquire, interpret, evaluate and use information for oral and written purposes, with some understanding of its ethical and legal ramifications.
2. Create library instructional and reference materials in digital and print formats that apply culturally responsive strategies.
3. Provide instruction to students, both in-person and virtually, in the use of information resources and the development of information competency skills on a one-to-one basis as part of reference service, in classroom/lab settings.
4. Actively collect and promote the use of library resources for faculty and services by assisting faculty in using library resources and services to support classroom instruction or for faculty professional development workshops; serve as an effective liaison to faculty in assigned departments/programs.
5. Assist in the design of the Library’s informational competency program that leads to student success, student retention, accommodation of learning styles, and instructional effectiveness; be proactive in implementing the information competency goals of the college.
6. Promote student success and retention through the design, development, implementation and coordination of library programs (displays, exhibits) and services (reference, circulation policies, instruction).
7. Assess and promote the use of appropriate technologies, resources, and materials for instructional and reference purposes.
8. Participate as a team player in CCSF Library & Learning resource committees, projects, and work groups; serve on college- wide committees, such as Shared Governance committees, Accreditation, Program Review, etc.
9. Perform professional responsibilities required of faculty members.
10. Must be flexible in adapting to changes in schedules and locations and be available to work late afternoons, evenings, and weekends at various center libraries or locations as required.
11. Supports an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.
12. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.
13. Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).
2. Earned Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association or a comparable international accrediting agency, OR THE EQUIVALENT ;
OR
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Librarian Credential (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

Desirable Qualifications
1. Experience providing effective reference/public service experience in an urban community college, academic or other library serving patrons of diverse backgrounds and needs.
2. Demonstrated ability in curriculum design, teaching and assessment of information competency skills in-person to students in one-on-one and classroom settings, including students with limited English proficiency or basic skills level.
3. Ability to utilize emerging instructional technologies to create online library materials and tutorials; knowledge of learning management systems.
4. Ability to assist students and faculty in the use of computer, mobile device, audiovisual, and library-related software and equipment.
5. Experience or training in planning and implementing information competency using current online digital platforms (Canvas, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Workspaces, etc).
6. Possess strong oral and written interpersonal communication skills, including engaging presentation skills.
7. Practiced in building academic library collections in digital or print that are responsive to student’s needs and integrate multicultural perspectives.
8. Ability to self-motivate, prioritize and effectively multi-task in a dynamic, collaborative and flexible environment.
9. Ability to use an integrated library system (e.g.Ex Libris Alma) to circulate materials, catalog items, produce statistics, or generate reports.
10. Experience coordinating services, personnel and sites for a library or library unit.
11. Fluency in a language other than English, such as Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin), Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, or Arabic. Possess the ability and willingness to conduct library orientations and/or research workshops in a language other than English.
12. Experience assessing Student Learning Outcomes and using data to improve instruction and/or programs.
13. Experience collecting and reporting data to local and state agencies.
14. Evidence of successful leadership experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students.
15. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.
