SUMMARY: Employment is for the 2022-23 school year, or upon return of employee, subject to School Board emergencies. Employment is hired for a specific period of time to fullfill a noe time or temporary unique requirement. The Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher is responsible for providing instruction in Culinary Arts and Child Development to students. Culinary Arts instructional responsibilities include developing lessons that help students learn, observe and gain hands-on experience in culinary arts trends, techniques and professional practices. Child Development instructional responsibilities include developing lessons that help students learn, observe and gain hands-on experience on the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of children.
ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Communicates clearly, both orally and in writing
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects; and communicates these objectives to students
- Uses effective classroom management strategies
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth; keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports
- Regularly communicates with parents and/or guardians through conferences, phone calls, grade updates and other means to discuss student progress
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, as well as professional growth
- Trains students as workers in identified competency areas related to the curriculum and monitors performance.
- Create opportunities for hands-on experiences.
- Conducts student data collection and reporting, i.e. student follow-up.
- Assists with curriculum development and refinement.
- Coordinates and assists with the development of internship experiences for students.
- Assists with coordination of student leadership activities, special events, and field trips.
- Develop and apply instructional materials intended to develop students’ awareness and understanding of the needs of children as individuals.
- Instruction in intended to create skilled, kind, understanding teachers, childcare staff and adults.
- Monitors the daily use of food, labor and supplies. Provides quality control of prepared foods.
- Directs student workers in maintenance of sanitation standards and correct work procedures
- Promotes the Culinary Arts program and restaurant through networking activities, group presentations, and targeted activities
- Coordinates with the office staff regarding reservations for banquets, meetings, and special events.
- Assist with evening/weekend events/activities when needed.
- Performs related duties or duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eligible to obtain a WA State CTE certificate in Family and Consumer Sciences prior to starting position: Associate Degree in Food Service Management OR
Two years of college training with major coursework in restaurant or hotel management or closely related field OR Graduate of a certified culinary apprenticeship, appropriate industry experience may substitute for education requirement
SERV Safe or advanced food safety certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Current or recent experience working with Native Americans or other similar diverse populations
Knowledge of or experience with: AVID, Responsive Classroom, Trauma-Informed Practices, Restorative Practices, Project GLAD, Project Based Learning
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
