IDENTIFICATION
Position Title: Learn to Skate Instructor
Department: Parks and Recreation
Immediate Supervisor: Ice Arena Program Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY
The primary function of this position is to teach the technical aspects of skating while also ensuring that ice-skating is enjoyable and rewarding. Some work includes communicating with students and parents and assisting rink personnel.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop communication, administrative and social skills.
a. Maintain an open line of communication with the Ice Arena Program Coordinator as it pertains to the students and classes.
b. Assist in keeping students and parents informed of skating competitions and activities.
c. Meet with parents and discuss skater’s progress.
d. Assist the rink staff with developing, organizing and producing skating shows, exhibitions and in-house competitions.
2. Maintain a visible and high profile within the rink.
a. Assist with rental skates; check new students for proper skate fit.
3. Come prepared for lessons:
a. Report to the rink 15 minutes prior to the start of class.
b. Prepare lessons advance.
c. Be creative, organized and professional during group lessons.
d. Decide which maneuvers will be taught or reviewed.
e. Prepare cones or other teaching aids.
f. Create a fun, friendly and organized environment for classes.
g. Keep skaters active and vary the maneuvers.
h. Keep accurate records of attendance and notes.
4. Maintain a professional image.
a. Be prompt and ready to instruct.
b. Wear the Brentwood issued jacket at all times during group.
c. Ensure all supplies are put away before leaving.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Good knowledge of department rules and procedures.
2. Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
3. Ability to make decisions in accordance with precedents and policies.
4. Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, employees and the general public.
5. Ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously or in rapid succession.
6. Ability to work nights, weekends & holidays, as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Current ISI, USFS, PSA, ISI Freestyle 5 or USFS equivalent skating ability. Minimum of 2 years coaching experience is preferred.
Per City of Brentwood Policy: All candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (including booster) and be willing to submit documentation. OR have a medical or religious exemption approved by City of Brentwood, and submit to weekly COVID testing.
EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM THE JOB
Ice skates, props.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $23.00 per hour
