Temporary Election Worker Specialist
Development Lead

The San Diego County Registrar of Voters Poll Worker Training Program is seeking experienced Election Workers to fill temporary employment positions for various assignments such as: assist in development of documents, handouts, manuals, etc. for program needs, conduct and facilitate training classes, as well as perform miscellaneous tasks needed for the training program.

The ideal candidate for this position is able to understand and learn an expansive body of detailed election information in a short period of time to complete and perform tasks and assignments. This position requires the ability to exhibit professionalism, patience, and integrity in all interactions with colleagues and with a diverse group of individuals. This position and work assignments also require the use of one’s personal vehicle and cell phone.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have worked as a Development Lead for a minimum of two elections or a Lead Trainer for a minimum of three elections.

  • Willingness to perform other duties within the Registrar of Voters as requested and to work a flexible schedule that will include early mornings, late afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the election timeline

Communication/Facilitation-
  • Ability to consistently and clearly communicate key points in every class to a diverse group of adult learners
  • Knowledge of facilitation skills, including: the differences between presenting, teaching, and facilitating, and appropriate techniques for handling challenging class participants.
  • Ability to lead interactive class agenda items and exercises
  • Ability to apply the theories and principles of adult learning to deliver training
  • Skill in interacting with adults with a diverse range of abilities
  • Ability to demonstrate friendly, customer-service skills when interacting with poll workers
  • Ability to appropriately handle poll workers' questions during class
  • Ability to appropriately address poll workers' comments during class, including those of an opinionated and/or political nature
Attention-to-Detail:
  • Ability to learn and remember intricate and important details of San Diego County election procedures and to accurately convey this information to poll workers
  • Ability to identify and communicate to supervisors any training participants who may be unable to perform duties adequately on Election Day
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
Physical Ability:
  • Ability to set up/take down training sites and clean up/reset after each training class
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to drive and to show current Driver License and proof of insurance upon employment
Technical Ability:
  • Ability to set up and operate classroom audiovisual equipment (instructions on use will be given)
  • Ability to setup, navigate and understand the proper use of electronic equipment used for election purposes (i.e. ePollbook (on an Apple I-pad), a Ballot Marking Device, and a county issued laptop, etc.)
Timeliness:
  • Ability to arrive to all scheduled assignments on time
  • Ability to complete class sessions within accepted timeframes, making adjustments when needed to cover key items
