POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The position of an Lead Teacher is responsible for providing an educational and nurturing indoor and outdoor learning environment that meets the developmental needs of children and ensures their safety in classroom.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  • Monitors the educational, recreational and rest activities of children;
  • Ensures that children are auditorily and visually supervised at all times;
  • Maintain overview of the classroom and give gentle reminders when necessary to allow a peaceful working environment in which children can concentrate on their work.
  • Works as a team member to guide and interact with children during age/developmentally appropriate projects and activities;
  • Overview for: Walking feet, quiet voices, attending to their own work, not disturbing others who are working, using the correct mat, keeping work on mat, walking around mat, returning works properly to the shelf, keeping body off mat, pushing chairs in when finished working at a table, invite wandering students to choose works.
  • Ensures children arrive and depart appropriately and safely;
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, organized and safe environment for children;
  • Communicates effectively with staff;
  • Works effectively as a team member in planning and implementing appropriate activities;
  • Works with a varied population of children;
  • Comforts and nurtures children;
  • Keeps current on emergency procedures, including child safety drills;
  • Attends staff meetings and professional development trainings;
  • Assists in maintaining records of children’s daily activities which may include incident/accident reports, medication logs, sign in/out sheets, etc.;
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned;
  • Be on eye level which child every-time, please kneel or squat at eye level;
  • Participate in parent education programs and other classroom activities sponsored by the school;
  • Keep supplies available and filled on the shelf for the children (daily);
  • Walk children to an from class when appropriate. Obtain parent signature on iPad through Transparent Classroom;
  • Refer the parent to the teacher is asked a question about the child;

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to the Program Director, Sonali Hegde.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):

  • Merit ID and Place of Employment Registration: (https://merit.dcyf.wa.gov/)
  • Vendor ID Number: https://www.dcyf.wa.gov/services/early-learning-providers/licensed-provider/vendor-number (I am able to help you mail/fax this form. No orientation necessary)
  • Employment Application;
  • Valid CPR/First aid course: American Red Cross
  • TB Test- (any local walk in clinic will do the test for you.)
  • Food Handlers Permit: https://www.foodworkercard.wa.gov/
  • Completed Background check (Can be done through the merit website). (https://merit.dcyf.wa.gov/)
  • Blood Borne Training and Child Abuse Reporting- Read Handouts
  • AMS/ MACTE approved Montessori Credential
  • Bachelor Degree: entered into Merit system for verification
  • Immunization Records: MMR verification required
  • Restraint Training

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS (position requirements at entry):

  • Reading, writing, basic knowledge of WEM curriculum and process of Montessori works;
  • Child development and behavior management; health, safety, injury prevention and sanitary practices;
  • Understands safety procedures for students and staff;
  • Understands confidentiality of information regarding student and their families obtained as a result of employment at WEM is required by law;
  • Address any issues with other faculty in an open, direct manner with the person. If necessary, consult Director;
  • Observes child behavior changes and take necessary health and safety precautions
  • Ability to work with children in a warm and confident manner; individually and in group settings
  • Works effectively as a member of a team
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations
  • Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable WEM policies and legal requirements
  • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a general posting for one or more Teacher positions. Positions available are full or part-time and will be filled as specific openings are identified.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $4,000.00 - $5,000.00 per month
