POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Teacher supervises the Education Department and teaching staff within the designated program. This position oversees the instruction and educational needs of students, ensuring an environment where students experience success in the classroom by adapting content material for various levels. The Lead Teacher uses a variety of teaching methods to facilitate the learning process, developing and evaluating daily differentiated lesson plans that correspond to approved curriculum for various functioning levels of students. The Lead Teacher must possess considerable skills in the remediation of classroom behaviors and the ability to present as an appropriate adult role model.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises the Education Department, Teachers, Teaching Assistants, and support staff.
  • Demonstrates effective planning skills by preparing lessons designed to implement and achieve academic goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates competence in teaching by thorough knowledge of curriculum, communicating effectively with students and staff members.
  • Ability to organize classroom learning and materials to maximize student time on tasks, while encouraging student learning.
  • Establishes consistent disciplinary approach, self direction, and positive self-image, setting high standards for student behavior with the ability to manage inappropriate behavior appropriately.
  • Cooperates with the clinical team and all staff members to promote positive relationships with students.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information, displaying sound judgement in appearance and general behavior.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Knowledge of computer skills, including Microsoft Software programs.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the behavioral sciences, education, human services or social services field.
  • Teaching certification by relevant government authority.
  • Teaching English as a Second Language/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification preferred but not required.
  • Supervisory experience in an educational setting.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Flexible schedule (evening, weekends, holidays) to facilitate program services.
  • Cleared tuberculosis test results.
  • Cleared background checks from appropriate entities.
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid Certification (CPR) and Level 1 fingerprint clearance card.


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds infrequently.
  • Performs tasks that may involve standing or walking 50% of the day; sitting 50%of the day.
  • May bend, stoop, reach and grasp as necessary.
