SeKON is looking for a Lead Systems Administrator to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) center. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and operate STAR’s helpdesk and is responsible for the successful completion/closure of helpdesk requests.
- Process requests issued outside of the helpdesk (e.g., via email, hardcopy, phone, or in person), only if there is an immediate need (e.g., locked out of the computer, locked out of email, or in person).
- Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems.
- Performs system backups and recovery.
- Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.
- Enter a corresponding helpdesk ticket when the immediacy subsides.
- IT Hardware/Software installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, upgrade(s), removal, decommissioning, and security administration.
- Analyzing, debugging, and correcting IT hardware/software issues.
- Works under general supervision; typically reports to a project leader or manager.
- Developing procedures, scripts, and software to accomplish helpdesk administration tasks/duties, as well as documentation in conjunction with these tasks, e.g., documentation may be required in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and/or Visio formats, or HTML and related formats.
- Investigating, discussing, and recommending IT solutions.
- Supporting STAR federal personnel with drafting/producing specifications of IT hardware/software to assist with STAR IT purchases.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Must be eligible for a Public Trust Clearance
- 6-8+ years of experience in systems administration/helpdesk support or related field.
- Experience with Hardware/Software installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, upgrade(s), removal, decommissioning, and security administration.
- Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Must have experience using MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio).
- A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to execute tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal oversight
- Ability to think critically, be creative as well as analytical, organized, and detail-oriented.
