The Child Development Center at St. Mary Star of The Sea Parish in Jackson is now accepting applications for a Latchkey Coordinator.
Basic Function
Conducts age appropriate child activities; assists in preparing materials; adheres to policies of the child development center. Starting Wage: $10 / hour
Representative Duties
  • Supervises children in all activities
  • Assists in preparing materials used in activities
  • Leads indoor and outdoor activities
  • Performs play area supervision and guides students into safe play
  • activities
  • Maintains discipline in a firm, loving, consistent and positive manner
  • Follows up on behavior shaping and reinforcement strategies as directed
  • Performs routine first aid and seek assistance for non-routine illness
  • and injuries
  • Attend meetings and participate in training workshops, conferences,
  • courses and a variety of professional growth activities as required
  • Performs housekeeping tasks in maintaining a neat, clean, orderly and
  • safe classroom atmosphere
  • Acknowledge each family (enrolled or touring) entering classroom with a
  • smile and a brief greeting
  • Perform related duties as assigned
  • Assist children with homework as needed
  • Maintain a Christ centered environment
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Concepts of child growth, development and behavior characteristics of
  • children
  • Child psychology, child development and the ability to apply theoretical
  • concepts
  • Appropriate physical and social environments for children
  • Nutritional needs for children
  • Appropriate safety precautions and procedures
  • English usage, spelling, grammar and mathematical concepts
  • Routing, filing and record keeping procedures for the classroom
  • Oral and written communication skills
Ability to:
  • Communicate satisfactorily in oral and written form; serve as an
  • appropriate English language model
  • Demonstrate a patient, receptive, and empathetic attitude toward children
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children
  • and adults
  • Maintain a clean, safe, attractive and positive learning environment
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Incorporate Catholic morals and beliefs, faith prayers and all
  • appropriate traditions
  • Demonstrate cross cultural sensitivity and respect
  • Observe health and safety regulations
Education and Experience
  • Must be 18 or older. A high school diploma is preferred but not required.
  • Continuing education hours (16) must be completed annually.
Other Requirements
  • Comprehensive background check (prior to hire) Valid Infant/Child/Adult CPR certification (within 60 days of hire) Health and Safety Training (prior to hire) TB test (prior to hire)

Physical Demands
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information
  • Seeing to read a variety of materials and observe children
  • Standing or walking for extended periods of time
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist children
  • Lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontally to reach supplies
  • Exposure to communicable diseases
