LANDFILL LABORER

Duties: Performs skilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the maintenance & operation of the City of Salina’s municipal solid waste landfill; operates pickups, mowers, litter picker & other light to medium equipment at the municipal solid waste landfill & in various assignments; trains in the operation of compactors, dozers, motor graders, front-end loaders, self-propelled scrapers; moves, levels, compacts & covers solid waste; assists in the planning to fill cells; looks for & prevents hazardous waste from entering into landfill; extinguishes fires; mows grounds; fixes fence; maintains landfill roads; welds; makes repairs to equipment; performs service & maintenance checks on equipment; cleans & maintains buildings; picks up litter & debris.
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. The City of Salina will pay enrollment fees & pay hourly wages for employees to attend CDL training at Salina Area Technical College.
Experience: One (1) year of responsible construction & maintenance work operating light & medium equipment.
Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license; valid Kansas commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement & tanker endorsement is desired but not required.
Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Hours: Monday-Thursday 6:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. or Tuesday–Friday 6:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Starting pay: $18.24-19.15/hr. eff. 01/01/2023. EOE
