This is an entry-level, multi-divisional classification. Under immediate supervision, performs unskilled labor of limited difficulty in the maintenance and improvement of: municipal parks and streetscapes including grounds and City buildings, solid waste, recycling or related areas. Assists, as directed, in performing a wide variety of manual work related to general maintenance activities. Employees in this class are not required to drive commercial vehicles. Performs other work as required.
In addition to the above, the following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of the essential duties of the position. They are descriptive, not limiting. Essential Duties: Assists in a wide variety of routine maintenance activities; performs manual labor for extended periods as instructed at all City locations; operates a variety of simple hand tools; may operate landscape maintenance equipment; and drives City vehicles. Assignments are not self-initiated.
Knowledge of: Simple tools used in maintenance.
Ability to: Safely perform a wide variety of manual labor for extended periods of time; follow written and oral instructions; interact courteously with the public and other City staff.
Training and Experience: No previous training or experience required.
Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid Class "C" California driver's license. NOTE: Applicant is required to submit a current "official" driver history report (DMV printout) issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles only and issued/dated within the past 2 months. On-line printouts are acceptable as long as they are from the office DMV website.
Physical Requirements: Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and remove objects weighing up to 50-80 pounds, depending on job assignment. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, from heights and with exposure to unpleasant and potentially hazardous conditions. Must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time. May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.
