Position Summary
Provides comprehensive primary clinical care in a physician office setting, by taking responsibility for the ongoing care of patients.
Essential Functions
- Greets patients and visitors in a prompt courteous, cheerful and professional manner.
- Directs full attention to patients and visitors and makes eye contact.
- Takes urine and blood samples or receives from Medical Assistant.
- Labels urine and blood samples and prepares for processing.
- Runs lab samples for in-house labs and documents results in laboratory manuals and in the EMR per established guidelines.
- Documents usage of laboratory equipment and supplies per established guidelines
- Tracks inventory of laboratory supplies and informs Practice Manager when levels are low and need to reorder.
- Receives lab supply shipments and stocks cabinets documenting per established guidelines.
- Receives immunizations and stocks in appropriate fridge documenting per established guidelines.
- Informs provider of concerning lab results per level of urgency indicated.
- Participates in mandatory lab reporting programs such as Lead to State Dept of Public Health by appropriately recording, collating and sending necessary data.
- Contacts parents or patients (as appropriate) regarding normal results or abnormal (after review of provider and directed to do so by provider)
- Answers telephone in a pleasant, clear and helpful manner, speaking clearly and concisely. Responds to incoming phone calls and messages in a timely manner, documenting all information exchanged in EMR.
- Assists in maintaining inventory and ordering clinical supplies for laboratory machines. Labels all multi-dose injectable vials with “opened” date.
- Assures disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with OSHA guidelines.
- Maintains good communication with administrative staff throughout the day to ensure smooth and efficient patient care.
- Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner
- Uses all electronic and computerized resources to provide timely and accurate patient care.
- Operates telephone system, facsimile machine, copier and other office equipment as needed for duties assigned.
- Cooperates in departmental cross training.
- Attends meetings as required
- Maintains information in a confidential manner and complies with state, federal, and practice guideline.
- Will support the functions required as a Patient Centered Medical Home
- Will participate as part of Quality Improvement Projects, as needed
- Others duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current appropriate state license/certification and CPR certification.
- One year of professional experience in a clinical setting preferred or candidate must show aptitude to learn medical procedures and use of electronic medical record.

- Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to process patient information.
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.

- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
- Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional clinical care to provide ongoing patient care.
- Skill in operating a computer and other office equipment.
- Skill in greeting patients and answering the phone in a pleasant, clear, and helpful manner.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with multi-cultural and multi-aged populations.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to exercise skills in initiative, problem solving, decision-making and multi-tasking.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards (results tracking and lab controls).
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Working Conditions
- Standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Physical demands include periods of sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Use of the telephone, computer and other related instruments or devices while communicating with patients, caregivers, physicians, and staff. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
