Join our team and provide for the public safety of citizens in Washington by conducting inspections of manufactured home alterations, inspections of food trucks/concession trailers and inspections of building structures constructed in factories, which are being used/sited in Washington. Inspections are conducted to determine conformance to state laws and agency rules – RCW 43.22, WAC 296-150 M/F/C/V/T and to adopted codes including the Washington State Building Code, National Electrical Code and the Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standard.
The candidate selected for this position will conduct random inspections of new installations of manufactured/mobile homes to ensure compliance with requirements of the Installer Certification Program, RCW 43.22A and WAC 296-150I.
The candidate will conduct random inspections of Manufactured Home dealer and Recreational Vehicle dealer lots to determine compliance with state and federal laws for unit certification and labelling, RCW 43.22, WAC 296-150R/P and CFR 3280/82 (MHCSS). This position performs audits of Manufactured Home factories, Recreational Vehicle factories and Park Model RV factories to ensure compliance with state laws and agency rules – RCW 43.22, WAC 296-150 R/P and CFR 3280/82 (MHCSS).
The incumbent is expected to know L&I’s strategic direction and strive to meet program performance goals. Answers inquiries from the public, consumers and industry professionals related to building codes, agency rules and inspection requirements.
Some of what you will do:
Perform field inspections of alterations to manufacture and mobile homes, using appropriate checklists, and approved plans to ensure compliance.- Document and enter all inspection results into identified agency tracking systems, follow up on written corrections, and issue infractions for work being done without permits et. Al.
- Conduct inspections in factories (in state, out of state, and overseas), modular buildings, food trucks, and other structures.
- Inspect new installations, manufactured home dealer lots, and RV/PMRV dealer lots.

What we are looking for:
Motivated self-starter with strong time management skills, able to prioritize tasks, schedule and organize compliance activities to ensure a comprehensive and efficient operation of work duties.- Be detail oriented, have strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to interview property owners, contractors and/or their workers and document the information gathered.
- Strong customer-interaction skills including the ability to be firm but polite when issuing infractions for non-compliance or explaining statutes and laws.
- Proficiency in using computers, and other devices including tablets and smart phones to access and utilize programs and databases for research, data entry, infraction writing, documenting jobsite visits, managing emails and performing administrative tasks etc.
- Current Building Inspector Certificate issued by International Code Council is desirable.
- Four (4) years of experience at journey-level in the building construction trades.
- Four (4) years of experience as a Building Inspector, Building Plans Examiner, Architect or Engineer.
- Four (4) years of experience in Modular, Manufactured Home or Recreational Vehicle Industry.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings for compliance with code and application.
- Demonstration of L&I Core Competencies
- ICC/UPC/NEC inspector certifications.
