Situated on 91 scenic acres of land on a peninsula on Lake Clear, just 20 miles from Lake Placid, Lake Clear Camp is an Adirondack gem. The camp is surrounded by breathtaking state land in the Adirondack Park, adjacent to the St. Regis Canoe area. Facilities at Lake Clear Camp include renovated cabins with full bathrooms, a dining hall, a health center, and buildings for programs and activities. The property features an area for swimming and boating, hiking, and primitive camping. Overnight campers at Lake Clear are second grade through twelfth grade. Day camp participants may also include kindergarten and first graders.

Positions at residential summer camps also include room and board, which is not taxed.

Summer Camp dates at Lake Clear Camp are July 30th - August 20th . These dates include pre-camp training and post-camp clean-up.

Employees who work the entire season are eligible to receive an $85.00 retention bonus.

PURPOSE: To prepare and serve all camp meals in compliance with GSUSA, NYDOH, OSHA, and ACA standards and regulations.

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Camp Director/ Director of Girl Experience

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to abide by the policies and practices of the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, Inc.
  • Minimum age: 21
  • Experience in quality and quantity cooking and food management.
  • At least 2 + years of experience with food preparation for large groups.
  • Must have sound judgment in anticipating and preventing accidents, and act calmly and quickly during emergencies.
  • Ability to hold a pre-camp training for kitchen and food service expectations and safety protocols.
  • Certified Sex Offender Registry and background checks will be conducted.
  • Ability to oversee and manage interactions between kitchen and dining room.
  • Demonstrated the ability to guide/supervise children and adults.
  • Desire and ability to work with and relate to children and adults in an outdoor environment.
  • Prior camp experience and/or interest in the Girl Scout Camping program preferred.
  • Prioritize the needs of the camp and the positive experience of the campers at all times.
  • Good health and stamina are necessary to work in the camp environment.
  • The acceptance of irregular work hours.
  • The acceptance and understanding that employment is at a resident (overnight) camp.

PRINCIPAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan menus that are nutritionally balanced.

Serve three meals a day and a snack. Assure that all meals are served on time.

Provide the same quality of food for all sessions of the camp season/program.

Work with the Health Supervisor to accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and preferences (i.e. vegetarian meals). Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPPA.

Work within the budget set by GSNENY.

Make purchases in consultation with the Camp Director.

Check food delivery against food orders.

Keep accurate records of all food purchased and the beginning, during and end of the season. Include quantities used and food returned to suppliers.

Supervise and submit evaluations for direct reports as per the organizational summer camp staff chart.

Conduct and submit a final inventory of all supplies within designated program area(s).

Complete end of season evaluations for direct reports.

Plan daily work schedule according to time preparation and serving of all meals.

Establish and maintain procedures for snacks, cookouts, overnights, and extended trips.

Maintain kitchen and food storage areas in compliance with GSUSA, ACA, OSHA, and NYSDOH standards and regulations.

Work with Assistant Camp Director and/or Trip Leader to coordinate meals around special events.

Make an inventory of food supplies during the last weeks of camp and order accordingly, so as not to have a remaining inventory at the end of the season.

Submit a final report of all inventories and records (i.e.: menus, meals served, food purchased, etc.) at the end of the season to the Camp Director.

Reports all accidents promptly to the Camp Director and Health Supervisor/Camp Nurse.

Ensures the proper use and care of all equipment.

Lead by example. Motivate and encourage staff to ensure the campers' well-being, fun, and happiness.

Emphasize safety.

Follow all ACA, GSUSA, OSHA, and NYSDOH standards and regulations.

Participates in all aspects of camp including pre-camp, open house, and post camp.

Attends staff meetings when scheduled.

Apply behavior management techniques to conflicts with children when necessary. Report incidents and accidents to supervisor immediately.

Report suspected child abuse to supervisor immediately.

Required to stay on the property during hours of operation and will share the responsibility with administrative team, for required on property weekend coverage.

Accepts other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Camp Director/Assistant Camp Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the campers in emergency situations.
  • Lift 35 pounds.
  • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control, and ability to adapt well to changing situations.
  • Participate in structured and unstructured activities.
  • Accept and follow directions both in verbal and written form.
  • Provide excellent customer service to other staff members, campers, caregivers, and visitors to camp.
