Nelson Electric is looking to add a Journeyman Electrician in our Ames office to work on various projects in Central Iowa. Qualified candidates will possess a State of Iowa Class A Journeyman or Master Electrician license, and be proficient in commercial and light-industrial applications, residential experience is a plus.

Position Description

The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for being both:

• A productive team member on larger projects under the direction of the Foreman Electrician including the supervision of up to several helpers/apprentices, delivering a quality product, maintaining good customer relations, and completion of project documentation.
• The lead electrician on smaller projects where responsible for the successful completion of large projects including the supervision of up to several helpers/apprentices, delivering a quality product, maintaining good customer relations, and completion of project documentation.

Job Duties

• Installation, testing, maintaining and troubleshooting electrical systems including layout, rough-in, and trim of lighting, power, and low voltage systems
• Adherence to the National Electrical Code and any local amendments
• Diagnosis of malfunctioning systems, components, and equipment
• Inspection of systems and equipment to identify hazards and/or defects
• Commitment to all safety procedures and can identify and correct unsafe conditions
• Able to direct, manage, and instruct apprentices/helpers
• Complete all paperwork in a timely, neat and organized manner
• Keeps worksite, vehicles and tools clean and completes maintenance as needed
• Ability to read and interpret job drawings and schematics
• Ability to be on an on-call rotation for emergency after hours work

Education/Licensing/Experience

• A high school diploma or GED
• State of Iowa Class A Journeyman or Master Electrician License
• Valid Driver’s License
• OSHA10 or OSHA30
• Awareness or certified in NFPA 70E
• NICET Certification is a plus

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, bend or kneel for long periods of time
• Ability to routinely lift 50lbs overhead
• Ability to routinely lift 100lbs to waist height
• Ability to work at elevated heights
• Ability to wear all PPE required
• Ability to work in all-weather temperatures/climates
