Position and Salary Information:
The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time IT System Administrator – Senior/Specialist level in the Information Services Division. This position is located in Tumwater, Washington and is not union-represented.
IT System Administrator- Senior/Specialist Salary Range 07IT: $84,072 - $113,064 annually.
The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
The following stipends may apply based on position details:
- Incumbents assigned to our Seattle office location receive an additional 5% King County Location Pay stipend.
- Incumbents assigned to a position designated as requiring dual language skills will receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend.
- Employees within the information technology professional structure who are in the entry, journey, and senior/specialist levels designated as and performing all the duties of a supervisor will receive 5% supervisory pay differential.

The division is responsible for the development and delivery of AGO computer and telephone network infrastructure and the operation of network hardware and software platforms to provide AGO staff access to their work products and communications. This division has multiple units that provide eDiscovery litigation support, custom software development, business intelligence and data management services. Data security and disaster recovery are key to the maintenance and operations of the AGO's voice and data systems. The division also ensures compliance with state governance policies and standards, and ensures that all electronic services function properly and securely.
What does an IT System Administrator - Senior/Specialist level position do?
This position supervises the System Operations Team within the Information Services Division (ISD).
The Information Services Division (ISD) provides support and consulting for legal technologies.
The division is responsible for the development and delivery of AGO computer and telephone network infrastructure and the operation of network hardware and software platforms to provide AGO staff access to their work products and communications. This division has multiple units that provide eDiscovery litigation support, custom software development, business intelligence and data management services. Data security and disaster recovery are key to the maintenance and operations of the AGO's voice and data systems. The division also ensures compliance with state governance policies and standards, and ensures that all electronic services function properly and securely.
The System Operations Team is responsible for four keys areas:
Managing the cloud-based email and associated authentication services in Office365 so that the AGO maintains a high service level availability to critical resource (email/calendaring).- Provides Windows Desktop Operating System services and Device Patch Management (with both on-premise and cloud based management tools) so that AGO staff have fully managed, secure, and reliable laptop devices that are up-to-date.
- Manage enterprise Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform by installing, deploying, updating, and monitoring app usage on the company deployed iOS devices (iPhone and iPad).
- Provides technical support for implementation of new technology solutions including Custom Off the Shelf Solutions (COTS) and SaaS (cloud-based) applications, including authentication and Single Sign On (SSO)
The Systems Operations team is the centralized management unit for critical applications and services in agency-wide use. The team performs system administration functions for COTS applications installed on Windows Server platforms. This includes installation, administration and maintenance of server-based applications and services required for agency business operations.
This position specifically is responsible for all operational activities, strategy and planning of the cloud-based service offerings in alignment with agency mission and strategic goals. Establishes and supports production cloud environments in Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Office365 and other private cloud service offerings and integrating existing and developing new tools/systems to manage cloud environments. Establishes and documents standard operating procedures (SOP) for cloud environments.
This position must work with many different stakeholders including other team members within ISD, cloud service providers, business owners across the AGO and with technical teams at other state agencies to be successful in delivering assigned services.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field. Equivalent professional experience may substitute year-for-year for educational requirement.
PLUS
Seven (7) years of consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in information technology analysis, system maintenance, and troubleshooting/problem resolution experience.
Three (3) years of demonstrated history (within the last five years) of systems administration in an enterprise environment, which includes change management, service level agreements, and high operational reliability.
Industry certification such as MCP, MCSE#, or other rigorous industry qualification, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
The most competitive candidates will possess the following desired qualifications:
Experience implementing Single Sign On (SSO) and providing advanced technical troubleshooting for SAAS/cloud-based applications so that they perform well, are scalable, and reflect high security.- Three (3) years of demonstrated history (within the last five years) of administration of MECM (formerly SCCM), Altiris, or another endpoint management suite.
- Patch Management & Patch Automation experience
- Comprehensive understanding of iOS device management from an enterprise perspective.
- Law firm work experience and an understanding of how to support the delivery of legal services.
- Strong understanding of ITIL/ITSM concepts.
Conditions of Employment
Per AGO Policy, employees and volunteers of the AGO must be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment. Being fully vaccinated means that an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Effective March 14, 2022, the AGO announced pursuant to its policy, that employees and volunteers must also receive a booster shot as a condition of employment. Employees or volunteers who are not eligible to receive the booster before their start date, due to required waiting times after receiving their initial vaccine(s), must provide confirmation of the vaccine type and date received so the AGO can calculate the date by which they must receive the booster.
