IT Spec. (Netwrk/Cust Support) Job at Department of Human Services
This position is located with the Network and Desktop Services (NDS) division, who’s primary function is to assist the division chief and subsequently all senior level computer specialist with providing a comprehensive delivery of technical assistance to agency personnel (users) whom have encountered challenges in their usage of current or advancing technologies. This position will also provide assistance to agency user(s) by assisting in the configuration, development, creation, installation and maintenance/troubleshooting of active network systems, subsystems and/or desktop hardware/software operations within the Department of Human Services.

Duties and Responsibilities
Performs Windows system administrative support which includes adding and removing users, performing server backups, installing software, monitoring system and network activity, assisting with user desktop issues on a daily basis. Assists in the planning, integration, installation, and testing of new and\or upgraded versions of the relevant hardware devices or operating software.
Assist in resolving anomalies associated with workstation performance, which may be related to common operational hardware, network interfaces, and software installations or related failures. Assist in resolving anomalies associated with network performance which may be related to common operational issues such as Network Interface Cards (NIC), routers switches and Wireless Access Points (WAP's) or other communication related failures. Plans, test, installs, or integrates new and\or upgraded versions of the relevant operating software, customer off the shelf (COTS) software, external components, and all pertinent subsystems on agency desktop systems.
Qualifications and Education
Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

3. Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information.
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must be equivalent to the next lower grade in the normal line of progression.

Working Conditions/Environment
The work environment includes an office setting and the work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated or remotely via telework. The position requires travel to all parts of the Washington Metropolitan area.

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is in a collective bargaining unit represented by AFSCME 2401, and union dues may be collected.
Position Designation: This position has been deemed Security Sensitive under the guideline of the DC Personnel Manual. Incumbents of this position are subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC personnel regulations. Accordingly, incumbents must successfully pass a criminal background and consumer credit check as a condition of employment and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks for the duration of their tenure.
Emergency Designation: This position has been designated as Emergency. Employees occupying positions designated as Emergency are required to:
- Provide advice, recommendations, and/or specific functional support necessary for the continuity of operations during a declared emergency.
- Remain at their duty station, or alternate work location (approved by their supervisor), if activated, when a situation or condition occurs and results in early dismissal for nonessential/non-emergency employees.
- Report to their duty station, when activated, on time and as scheduled when a situation or condition occurs during non-work hours, and results in the late arrival or closing of District government offices for non-essential/non-emergency employees.
- Telework during a declared emergency, instead of remaining or reporting to his or her duty station, if directed by the agency head (or designee), supervisor or manager.
- Carry or wear their official District government ID card during the period of the declared emergency, if not teleworking.
