SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Transcriber/Translator is responsible for transcribing and translating Audio recordings and Audio Visual material.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: *
- Coordinates with Archival Services/Technical Services Librarian and Project Team to perform transcribing/translation of Audio and Video collections.
- Create full transcripts and translations for collections deemed of sufficient value.
- Create keywords to be used in aiding the findability of items and brief summaries of each item.
- Determine level of transcription needed: a word for word Transcription in Inupiat & Translation in English, a paraphrased Transcription in Inupiat & Translation in English; a word for word Translation in English, or a paraphrased Translation in English.
- Create keywords for each item being transcribed/translated to be used in aiding the findability of these items as well as brief summaries.
- Performs quality control of digitized collections, entering progress and data into spreadsheets using established best practices.
- Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
- Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: *
- Proficient in English and Inupiaq.
- Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
- Self-starter and ability to make sound judgements while working independently.
- Experienced with Audio and Video capture and editing equipment, procedures, and materials within an archival setting.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and organize work assignments in order to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural team environment, including working with various cultural organizations.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
- Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
- Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
- Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
- Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE [Required]: *
- High School degree or equivalent.
- Fluent in Inupiaq in both reading and writing.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:
- Experience in translating/transcribing.
- Valid driver’s license.
