Position Summary
The Infection Control Coordinator supports the Infection Preventionist with administration of the Infection Prevention and Control Program across San Ysidro Health.
Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Assist IP with Infection Prevention and Control surveillance activities to identify and reduce risks of acquiring and transmitting infections among patients, employees, contract service workers, volunteers, students and visitors across SYH.
  • Assists with reviewing and updating organization-wide Infection Prevention and Control policies, procedures, and programs to insure SYH is in compliance with current CDC, OSHA, CMS, CDPH, and other national and local regulatory standards or directives.
  • Assist with creating, updating, and maintaining all mandatory employee Infection Prevention and Control trainings according to regulatory guidelines and SYH Infection Prevention and Control programs.
  • Assist with maintaining mandatory employee Infection Prevention and Control trainings logs and keeping supervisor/manager informed of staff missing required trainings. Creates a bi-monthly report to Infection Control Committee (ICC) to inform them of status of outstanding mandatory trainings.
  • Provides routine and special education on infection control related topics, per direction from IP.
  • Assist IP with input towards the annual IC Risk Assessment and implementation of the Infection Prevention and Control annual plan.
  • Provides support for the Infection Control Committee. Some support actions might include sending meeting invites to committee members using Outlook, taking meeting notes, transferring notes to meeting minutes, emailing minutes and other pertinent items to committee members, maintaining attendance, follow-up with team members as appropriate to ensure action items are completed, assist with preparation of the meeting (including agendas and PPT presentations). Other support actions as requested by IP.
  • Under direction from IP, will assist communicable disease exposures related to infection prevention and control across SYH. Will assist with investigation, tracking logs, and communications to obtain pertinent information to assist with employee monitoring / return to work decisions.
  • Updates employee exposure logs and reports data to appropriate departments internally/externally, per direction of IP.
  • Performs routine Infection Control rounds on all areas, engages staff, provides on the spot IC training (as needed) and promotes integration of Infection Control practices in all clinical areas.
  • Proficient in data collection and analysis, report writing, and data presentation.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Keeps abreast of all regulations and standards to ensure compliance with orders or directives issued by duly constituted government/regulatory agencies.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
  • Attends meetings as required and participates in committees as directed

Job Requirements: Education (Minimum level of education):

  • HS Diploma/GED Equivalent is required.
  • Prefer college degree or relevant experience, including experience with Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Forms, LMS, Creating Graphs/Charts, and reporting writing skills.

Experience (Minimum level of experience):

  • Prefer 2 years’ experience in a healthcare setting and knowledge of infection prevention and control standards. Knowledge of HLD/Sterilization practices preferred.

Verbal and Written Skills Required to Perform the Job:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
