SSI needs to add an Illustrator III to support the China Lake community across many different weapons systems.

The mission of NAWCWD is to provide the Armed Forces with effective and affordable integrated warfare systems and life-cycle support to ensure battle space dominance. NAWCWD operates the Navyâ??s largest Western Land and Sea Range Test and Evaluation Complex which is used to verify and validate proof of concepts to operationally fielded capabilities by applying new technologies and performing Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), including logistics and in-service support for guided missiles, free-fall weapons, targets, crew systems, and electronic warfare systems.

Primary Functions:

• The projects to which the Illustrator III are assigned, usually involve several of the common art medias (as in the case of Illustrator II), but the illustrations themselves typically require a higher degree of skill in the use of many of the media.
• This degree of skill is required for the following reasons:

• The speed with which the illustration must be completed requires the ability to work quickly and competently in order to produce an acceptable finished product within the available time limit.
• The illustration calls for the use of fine detail, special artistic effects, or an unusual use of the chosen medium or;
• The method of reproduction, how the illustration will be used, or the information or artistic results desired, calls for exceptional care and skill in the use of the medium.

• The themes illustrated may be either concrete in nature or they may represent ideas and abstract concepts.
• The illustrations differ from those typical of Illustrator II in that they are expected to interpret the publications, chart, poster, or exhibit in which they appear, while Illustrator II presents factual, rather than interpretative material. Illustrator III is required to have knowledge of a specialized subject matter field such as science, or technical equipment, and will prepare illustrations that are designed to reproduce the appearance of specific or scientific specimens or of pieces of technical equipment.

Education/Experience/Skills:

• 7 years work experience supporting weapons systems in an media/graphics support role.

Must possess a valid California driverâ??s license. U.S. Citizenship and must be able to obtain and maintain U.S. DoD SECRET Security Clearance required for hire, and to be maintained throughout employment. All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.

CONTINGENT OFFER

This position is contingent upon contract award and is anticipated to start in February of 2023.
