At the City of Amarillo, the Leave of Absence (LOA) Specialist is responsible for advocating, administering and maintaining all leave of absence programs. This position will oversee and administer leave requests and accommodations arising under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state and local laws, and various other leave policies.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
In this role you will:
- Effectively manage the outsourced leave of absence administrator (third-party), and oversee the entire end to end leave of absence process.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on ADA, FMLA and other City leave of absence policies.
- Serve as a walk-in resource for employee and manager concerns related to leave of absence, providing guidance as needed.
- Support employees and departments in the initial leave of absence request and subsequent certifications.
- Advise and collaborate with supervisors and managers on leaves of absence and accommodations.
- Present requests for reasonable accommodation with recommended course of action to review for equitable outcomes.
- Coordinate, track and manage various leave of absence.
- Develop, generate, and present reports on a regular basis to analyze leave and accommodation data trends.
- Identify trends and recommend program, policy or administration changes as needed.
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality with the ability to adhere to the highest degree of professional standards.
- Excellent customer service through professionalism, ownership, and initiative.
Licenses/Certification
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field required. Completion of specialized certification or training on FMLA/leave administration, or ability to obtain within six months of employment. The City may consider any combination of education and experience in determining a candidate’s minimum qualification.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of human resource experience preferred. Professional HR certification preferred.
