JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: HOME REPAIR MECHANIC I - HOUSING
DEFINITION: Under the supervision of the Production Manager, performs quality home repairs, picks up materials when necessary and completes approved repairs in houses assigned by the Housing Department for any of the home repair and modification programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to read and write English.
Experience:
- Four years full‑time experience in the building trades.
Capabilities:
- Familiar with all building repair functions: plumbing, electrical and carpentry.
- Without on‑site supervision, able to complete quality carpentry, plumbing and electrical work which does not require building permits or building trade licenses.
- Evaluate when a repair need has progressed beyond the scope of the program and to notify his/her supervisor.
Additional Requirements:
- Hand tools,
- a valid driver's license, good driving record (clear driving record for past 3 years),
- dependable transportation and car liability insurance

DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
a. Performs only those repairs in houses as indicated on work orders, and as required to meet established work quality and quantity and work safety standards.
b. Checks and insures that required materials are at the job site prior to the beginning of a job and reports any missing items.
c. Reports to the office exact starting and ending time and hours on each job and maintains communication so that the office is aware of mechanic's location at all times. Maintains and completes accurate records of travel, inventory, work hours on site and other paperwork as required.
d. Works co‑operatively with other Home Repair Mechanics. Works to increase and perfect technical skills.
e. Reports to the Production Manager any unusual problems or situations of elderly homeowners which require follow‑up by the Social Worker.
f. Maintains mandatory inventory and orders needed items through the Materials Coordinator.
g. Assumes responsibility for all tools and materials received from PCA.
h. Explains to the homeowner how each new item works. Cleans up work area before leaving.
I. Performs other duties as directed by the Production Manager or his designate.
