Home & Community Support Staff

  • Duties: provide companion support to individuals with intellectual disability in the home and/or the community setting. Complies with Helping Hands’ policies and procedures and instructions from supervisory staff. Ensures the health, safety, and welfare of the individuals supported. Reports to Helping Hands supervisory staff.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Supports the achievement of individual’s personal outcomes.
  • Implements individual’s Community Life Plans.
  • Accompanies individual on recreational and community outings.
  • Engages the individual with leisure activities such as arts, crafts, games, etc. in the individual’s home.
  • Provides general assistance to the individuals in the home and/or the community with implementing their activities of daily living.
  • Completes documentation as it relates to your job responsibilities.
  • Communicates and resolves individual concerns with the Helping Hands’ supervisor and attends general (virtual and/or phone) staff meetings.
  • Complies with instructions given by the supervisor in the event of a crisis situation.
  • Serves as a model to the appropriate language, dress, and behavior.
  • Receives 24 hours training annually, relevant to Human Services. (Completed online & virtually)
  • Assumes other responsibilities as required.
  • Transportation of individuals in their own vehicle and/or agency vehicle.- Restricting the individuals to unrealistic time constraints prohibited.
  • Receive medication administration training and
  • Be allowed to transport individuals in their vehicle or agency vehicle under defined conditions.- IF APPLICABLE
  • Follow all instructions, and/or polices and/or given by supervisory staff.
  • MUST HAVE YOUR OWN VEHICLE.

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma OR G.E.D and at least 18 years of age. Must have a valid driver’s license and insured vehicle.

All individuals and staff are required to wear a mask regardless if they are vaccinated or not. Vaccination is NOT required.

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Pittsburgh, PA: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
