High School Tutor Job at Breakthrough Potential

Breakthrough Potential Remote

Break Through Potential is seeking highly qualified high school, academic tutors. We are a new company but already have a team of approximately 35 tutors covering over 100 courses. 100% of our tutors are certified teachers or collegiate faculty. This is no ordinary team, and we only hire the best and only the best. Is that you? Then we would love to meet you!

The Role:

  • Tutors work with students remotely via Zoom.
  • Since this is a new company, the number of students you will tutor will steadily grow, but some subject areas may grow much slower than others. Once your subject area has 2-4 students, 8-10 hours of tutoring a month will be expected.
  • Sessions are booked in one-hour blocks, and clients book them online.
  • Sessions are either one-on-one or in small learning pods of ten students or less. You can determine your class size.
  • Tutors can choose whether to concentrate on one method or do both.
  • All employees are considered independent contractors and begin their contracts when they meet with a student. From this date, you will be offered a probationary contract with a possible extension if we need more time to evaluate your performance.
  • After the probationary period is over and if you are approved, you will be offered an ongoing, 1099 employee contract.
  • As a 1099 employee, you have instructional autonomy, with the primary goal of improving student performance. Evaluations by students will be reviewed to determine effectiveness.
  • Although 1099 employees are autonomous regarding the "how" of their job, everyone must still adhere to company policies, expectations, and decisions for the overall health and effectiveness of the organization.
  • We have an administrative team that handles front-end back-end operations and finances everything/everyone necessary to keep a business operating. You will be required to create your calendar for availability. The terms will be provided in your contract.

Qualifications:

  • Certified teacher or experienced collegiate faculty in the respective subject area. If you are not certified or have not taught at the college level, you will not be considered.
  • We prefer at least three successful years as a teacher in the subject area but still encourage new teachers to apply.
  • Tutors need to be able to present dynamic instruction in an online environment.
  • Tutors should have expert knowledge in technology, including, but not limited to, Zoom, Google Workspace, and instructional platforms/resources for a rich learning environment.
  • Tutors should understand accommodations and modifications defined by 504 and Special Education to support students based on their needs.
  • Tutors must understand how to monitor student progress.
  • Tutors must communicate with students in a timely manner.
  • We prefer teachers that have credentials and experience in multiple subject matters.

Characteristics:

  • Passionate about the success of every child and the commitment to go above and beyond to help students not only learn the content but develop confidence.
  • An understanding that building relationships and developing students' self-efficacy is the only way to be an effective instructional leader.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to systematic inequities that may be impacting student success.
  • Capable of communicating in a culturally responsive way.
  • Committed to students learning and not simply allowing them the opportunity to learn.
  • Social and emotional competence allows you to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Highly organized, dependable, very flexible, and can provide quality work without constant reminders or supervision.
  • Be a problem-solver, but know when to ask for help.
  • Be dependable and present for your tutoring sessions and communicate in a timely manner with the organization.
