This position is responsible for preparing the patient to see the doctor by performing various tests, asking patients about their history of present illness and medical history, and explaining what is next in the exam process.
Essential Functions

  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and teammates
  • Responds appropriately and promptly to patient questions within scope of role
  • Efficiently and accurately completes patient history and pre-testing for comprehensive and sub-specialty optometrists and ophthalmologists including, but not limited to visual acuity, tonometry, insertion of appropriate eye drops, tech external exam, manual lensometry, dry eye testing, visual field testing, Topography, fundus photos and OCT imaging.
  • Accurately document information gathered during exam in accordance with AECs procedures and policies in NextGen EHR
  • Assists provider in meeting governmental and coding requirements
  • Participate in regular team meetings to ensure effective team performance and advance inter-department communications; this may require after hours work
  • Responsible for ongoing professional self-development

Other Essential Functions

  • Must be willing and able to work a variety of hours and work in the various locations as needed. The locations include Hudson, Hugo, New Richmond, Stillwater, Woodbury and any partner facility
  • Must present self at the workstation, ready for work, at the scheduled time
  • Participates in department and company meetings, as requested
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education & Licensing*

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, required
  • COA preferred

Experience

  • 1-2 years experience in an ophthalmology or optometry practice preferred
  • 1-2 years experience with previous electronic medical record experience (NextGen) preferred

This position will be filled as either an Ophthalmic Technician, Ophthalmic Assistant, or Clinical Assistant, dependent upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.
