Position Summary

The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for understanding and implementing the organization's safety program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. The Health and Safety Specialist is charged with providing support and leadership to build a safety culture through technical support, program development, and relationship building.

Responsibilities

• Partners with internal business leaders to share information, make recommendations, and drive alignment and understanding of current safety risks and initiatives.
• Using leading and lagging indicators to develop and maintain a facility-wide risk assessment to identify and prioritize risk reduction activities.
• Tracks and analyzes safety and incident-related data to uncover trends and themes; makes recommendations based on objective analytical conclusions.
• Implements and audits safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA/TOSHA) rules and regulations.
• Develops and conducts specialized safety training.
• Assists in the maintenance of facility emergency response plans.
• Evaluates working conditions and recommend improvements in safety and health methods, practices, and procedures and follow up to ensure corrective measures have been implemented.
• Works with production supervisors to identify the root cause analysis for near misses and work-related incidents.
• Works with other departments to drive employee participation in safety programs.
• Facilitates Safety Committees.
• Participates in regulatory compliance inspections.
• All other duties assigned.

Basic Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of three to five years' experience in manufacturing with responsibility for safety program development and execution.
• Experience in metal-casting foundry preferred.
