Responsibilities

This is a fulltime, career position. Under the direction of the study site PIs and supervised by the Health Education Supervisor 2, this position serves as a Health Educator for the Greater Sacramento Women’s Brain Health Program (GROW). The GROW Program, centered in Oak Park and surrounding areas, will offer community health education and research opportunities for women of color, who are among the groups at the highest risk of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias. The study will generate data and seek to answer important questions regarding how and why disparities in rates of AD exist in women of color and provide direct evidence on how to address these inequities in the community.

The Health Educator, in collaboration with the Director of Community Outreach and GROW leadership will be independently responsible for conducting health education presentations and driving community outreach and engagement for GROW.

Required Qualifications
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, exercise science, psychology, public health, or related science field and/or equivalent experience, education, and training
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Thorough knowledge of the health promotion and education field and theory
  • Thorough knowledge of the design and delivery of health education programs
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to lead and facilitate diverse groups of people with understanding of group dynamics
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills- to interact effectively with diverse professional and community groups
  • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, effectively, and often persuasively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to function independently and exercise professional judgement
  • Knowledge of health concepts, preventive health care and behavior change
  • Administrative skills and ability to exercise good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness in making decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive and cooperative attitude even during unexpected schedule or priority changes and retain interpersonal effectiveness
  • Ability to drive or travel to attend community and outreach events as needed
  • Must be flexible and available to attend presentations in the greater Sacramento area outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exercise, dietetics, nutrition, or similar health coaching degree, certification, or experience.
  • Expertise in the area of cognitive health
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with community groups and community health clinics in the Greater Sacramento area.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Hmong, Vietnamese, and/or Cantonese
Special Requirements
  • Must participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program
  • Travel required to other cities as needed.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work.
  • This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment
