Under supervision, to assist in the planning and implementation of health education programs.

The list established from this recruitment will be used for all vacancies as they become available, this may include full time, part time, and extra help positions.

EXAMINATION DATES: Candidates who meet the employment standards will be invited to take an online written examination scheduled for December 12, 2022 through December 16, 2022. Qualifying candidates will be notified via email with instructions for taking the online examination.

Typical Tasks

  • Assists in planning and executing education programs to meet community health needs;
  • Collects health education program planning data;
  • Assists in the development of program objectives;
  • Prepares health education mass media materials such as news releases and public service announcements;
  • Prepares informational materials to explain departmental services and current public health information;
  • Conducts education programs and presents audio/visual materials on health services and issues for educational institutions, community groups and agencies;
  • Assists in conducting orientation programs and workshops;
  • Contacts community agencies and groups to promote health education programs;
  • Assists in developing a resource file for accommodating requests for speakers, film and literature;
  • Answers routine requests for information from the general public;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Employment Standards

Sufficient education and experience, which demonstrates the possession and application of the following knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge of:

  • Epidemiology, environmental health and preventive medicine;
  • General principles of organization as it affects the structure of Health Departments;
  • Social science concepts;
  • Educational psychology;
  • Basic interviewing techniques;
  • Standard community resources of health education;
  • Techniques of collecting and compiling data pertinent to health education programs;
  • Principles and processes of community education and organization.
Ability to:
  • Implement assigned components of a health education program;
  • Present ideas accurately and effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Develop effective working relationship with staff, community representatives, and the general public;
  • Deal objectively with sensitive, controversial health issues;
  • Deal with a wide variety of socio-economic groups.
