Health Care Support Specialist
Bilingual: Spanish Required

Position Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Specialized Services Manager of Clinical Services, the Health Care Support Specialist works with service coordinators and families to identify and access public and/or private benefits available to eligible clients.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintains current, centralized information related to public and private benefits to which regional center clients may be entitled (included but not limited to IHSS, Medi-Cal, and private insurance).
  • Provides consultation and support in accessing Medi-Cal Managed Health Care benefits. This would include enrollments and changes in plans or providers.
  • Provide support in coordinating care and services with the Independent Practice Associations (IPA) and medical groups. This will include denial of funding of a recommended medical service, therapy, durable medical equipment, EPSDT services, and home health care.
  • Serves as a liaison with the Medi-Cal Managed Care Health Plan and with the Centers for Medicaid and

Medicare (CMS). This will include attending meetings at the county and state level.

  • Work with the Medi-Cal Managed Care representatives to develop resource lists of clinical providers in our catchment area.
  • Support in the enrollment/disenrollment of clients into the Medicare Advantage Programs under the federal managed care programs, including Medicare Part D.
  • Support in coordinating with the Medi-Cal Managed Health Plan the transition of clients into the ICF/SNFs
  • Provides support in coordinating services for the CBAS programs.
  • Provides consultation for IHSS/Personal Care Hours benefits. This will include reviewing cases when clients/families are requesting advocacy to appeal for an increase of hours.
  • Will stay up to date regarding changes in public and/or private benefits.
  • This position provides coverage to other specialized positions within the Clinical Services Department.
  • Provides support in accessing behavioral health services through private insurance. This will include appeals at the first and second level.
  • Provides and/or coordinates training for clients, families, providers, and SG/PRC staff regarding various benefits available through public sources and private insurance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, human development, sociology, public health nursing or a related field and two years of related experiences. A Master's degree in a related field can be substituted for one year of the required experience.

  • Must exercise skill in creative problem solving with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Must be proficient in the use of a computer including Microsoft programs.

Other Requirements:
Employees using a private vehicle for agency purposes must maintain a valid driver’s license and minimum liability insurance coverage.

Salary

$23.00 to $44.14/ hour
