About the role

We're seeking a talented Financial Risk Lead to join Point's growing team. You'll be the founding member of the risk team and manage efforts to build out credit, market, and prepayment risk management at Point. The ideal candidate brings extensive credit risk management experience and an exceptional analytical toolkit. You will build a world-class risk function at a fast-growing and mission-driven fintech company with truly innovative financial products. This is a highly visible role with significant autonomy and the opportunity to work across several teams.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to identify, measure, monitor and control financial risks (e.g., credit, market, and prepayment) across our 3 product lines (i.e., Home Equity Investment, HELOC, and SEED).
  • Formalize our risk appetite statement and develop comprehensive risk management policies and procedures.
  • Assess portfolio-level exposure to financial risk via sensitivity analyses, stress tests, and loss forecasting. Work cross-functionally to establish the appropriate risk/return tradeoff and implement portfolio-level constraints.
  • Continuously monitor for current and potential risks using quantitative (e.g., risk reporting suite) and qualitative methods. Examine market and industry trends, identify potential macroeconomic risk factors, and incorporate them into our risk policy.
  • Create a credit risk scoring model using advanced analytics tools and machine learning models, and help incorporate it into our underwriting process.
  • Assess impact of financial risks on the optimal pricing strategy and work with others to optimize pricing.
  • Help pave the path towards the first-ever credit rating agency-rated Home Equity Investment securitization.
  • Operate as a player-coach while building your team over time.

About you

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in an analytically-oriented financial risk role within a best-in-class risk management function.
  • Extensive experience modeling credit risk and implementing risk controls in UW, pricing, and portfolio management.
  • Adept analytically and technically. Extensive experience with Excel, SQL, and Python/R. Comfort with machine learning models and econometrics is preferred.
  • Detailed understanding of credit rating agencies and their approaches to modeling risk.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory and legal requirements for building decisioning models.
  • Articulate communicator and cross-functional leader who is highly organized and detailed-oriented.
  • Player-coach who is excited to get their hands dirty but also able to build and manage a small team.
  • Bonus points for experience working in real estate/mortgage/home equity and at a fintech (or other fast-paced environment).

Fully paid parental leave

Point will true-up wages from state-applicable PFL earnings so that the employee's total gross pay will be equivalent to 100% of their regular base pay, as well as two weeks of fully paid leave to be available after exhaustion of state PFL.

For employees in states without Paid Family Leave, Point will provide up to 8 weeks of paid parental leave.

In addition, all employees will receive 4 weeks of fully paid transition time. For four weeks after returning from parental leave, and following the use of all other paid leave benefits, you may work part-time, meaning two or three days per week, and receive 100% of regular base pay.

The expected base salary range for Professional roles (e.g. Finance, Marketing, Human Resources) at this level within Point is $115,200 to $216,000 per year. This does not include any other potential components of the compensation package, including equity, benefits, and perks outlined above. At the launch of each position we benchmark compensation to the appropriate role and level utilizing competitive compensation data from various data sources as references. At the offer stage we use the signal we received from our interviews coupled with your experience, location, and other job-related factors to determine final compensation.
