The Vergennes Union Elementary School is seeking a Head Custodian to be responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of the school. Position to start January 23, 2023.Essential Responsibilities include the following: Assist the Director of Buildings, Grounds and Safety in the custodial operations of the assigned facilities and grounds.Ensure appropriate chemicals, supplies, and equipment, which have been approved for use according to policies, procedures, and OSHA standards, are utilized to perform all custodial tasks.Perform necessary tasks, including but not limited to, floor maintenance, restroom area cleaning and disinfecting, dusting, glass/wall cleaning, emptying trash properly, care and maintenance of equipment, and care and maintenance of supplies and work areas.Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and interact with others in a cooperative manner.Patrol buildings and grounds of designated areas by responding to and report unusual incidents or occurrences in order to minimize or deter the development of hazardous or dangerous situations.Do routine maintenance of electrical, heating, and ventilating vents and fixtures, locks and lockers (where applicable). Perform daily boiler operations.Troubleshoot maintenance problems. Handle minor repairs directly.

Refer carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs to maintenance staff as indicated.Order and maintain an appropriate inventory of custodial supplies and equipment for assigned school through approval of the Director of Buildings, Grounds, and Safety.Participate as a member of the school safety team: Activate alarm during drills; help inspect the building to ensure everyone is evacuated and alert principal of such; perform school safety inspections as part of a team; attend informational meetings.Monitor the computerized heating system and notify the Director of Buildings, Grounds, and Safety of any problems.Qualifications: High School degree, or equivalent, plus 2-3 years of relevant experience preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. Commercial cleaning experience preferred. Experience with waxing and stripping floors, and using a scrubber, floor buffer, commercial vacuum and other floor machines also preferred.
