Job Title: Grants Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Communications & Fundraising

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $23.23 – $25.22/hr, depending on experience

Hours: Full time, generally 9-5 Monday to Friday, though exact work hours are flexible.

Location: East Portland (currently remote/hybrid, future hybrid and in-office options)

SUMMARY

The Grants Coordinator is responsible for raising funds from private foundations to support our general operations and programming. They will also partner with program managers to pursue public program contracts, which comprise the bulk of our funding and work. To reach these goals, the grants coordinator works alongside and supervises the grants specialist; the two-person grants team is part of a seven-person communications and fundraising team. This position tracks public and private funding opportunities that fit Our Just Future’s current and future programming; understanding our program funding needs by pro-actively communicating with program teams; working with the director of communications and fundraising and grant writer to strategize, schedule, write, edit and submit complete and compelling proposals, including some budget preparation; and ensuring that required reports for foundation and corporate grants are submitted on time.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned, as necessary and helpful to the team and organization.

  • Raise unrestricted and project-specific funds through grant writing to private foundations and public entities
  • Be responsible for all phases of identifying, preparing and submitting compelling, fundable grant proposals with a high funded rate.
  • Partner with and supervise the grant specialist to manage the grant portfolio as part of a two-person grants team
  • Research and identify local, regional and national foundation and corporate grant funding sources
  • Monitor and report fundraising targets
  • Comply with all grant reporting required by foundation and corporate donors
  • Collaborate with program staff to: 1) turn project ideas into grant proposals with accurate project budgets, and 2) clearly communicate grant activity and reporting needs in a timely way
  • Coordinate across teams to access accurate and current program data for proposals and reports
  • Set annual fundraising goals with director of communications and fundraising
  • Work with internal finance team to: 1) ensure grant revenue is recorded and spending is tracked, and 2) access required information and budget review for applications
  • Ensure that grant databases (GrantHub and MS Excel) used to track opportunities, deadlines, and results are current and accurate.
  • Assist occasionally with other team projects, as requested
  • All communications and fundraising team members contribute to the success of our annual fundraising events, which includes some evening and weekend hours a few times per year.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Grants Coordinator supervises the Grant Writer and as such will participate in our Supervisory Resources Group to learn management techniques.


QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and /or ability required:


  • 2+ years’ experience in non-profit fundraising, health and human services, communications, or related field, ideally with an anti-racist and/or community centric focus
  • Experience writing successful grants to government, corporate and/or private foundations.
  • Strong writing and editing skills; demonstrated ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive grant proposals. Ability to follow established messaging and brand guidelines with equity and inclusion at the center
  • Ability to productively and kindly collaborate on writing projects and coach others’ writing and editing work, specifically the grant specialist
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospects
  • Commitment to and demonstrated experience applying DEI and community-centric principles to fundraising practices, and comfort with discussing these needs
  • Interest in being an active member of a collaborative team culture that recognizes and supports whole lives; gives and receives helpful feedback regularly, supportively and with kindness and grace; values collaboration; and respects others’ skills and perspectives
  • Demonstrated ability to self-motivate, well organized and self-directed
  • Ability to meet many hard deadlines and plan ahead to coordinate with other staff leading up to them
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and be able to manage, organize and prioritize many diverse and concurrent activities and responsibilities
  • Ability to operate in a Windows PC and Microsoft Office environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with funders
  • Familiarity with Oregon funders of human services, preferred
  • Understanding of complex non-profit finance and budgeting a plus
