Job Description Summary

The Design Engineer will report to the GE90 Hot Section Engineering Manager and be responsible for owning the design of various hot section hardware. The engineer will work closely with the manufacturing suppliers to ensure hardware delivery needs are met, reduce losses, and improve producibility of the hardware. They will also work closely with Services, Overhaul and Repair facilities, field management and Systems teams to reduce shop visit costs, address field findings, ensure the hardware meets customers’ expectations and work to improve engine time on wing.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of hot section engine hardware using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. Specific needs exist in HPT airfoils.
  • This work will be focused on mechanical design, however an understanding of thermal and materials design will also be required.
  • Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
  • Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
  • A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Aero, or other similar degree (or high school diploma/6 years of discipline centered experience in Design Engineering)

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
