The Prince George's County Government Department of the Environment is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Foster Coordinator position, grade A05-07, within its Animal Services Division.

About the Position:
This is an entry level Foster Coordinator position working in the area of animal management with the primary responsibility of assisting with the Foster Care Program. Clerical work is performed in accordance with Federal, State and Local procedures, laws and regulations. This position assists the Foster Care Program and is responsible for coordinating animal transfers to foster agents. Work assignments are performed under the general supervision of a higher level Administrative Manager.

What You'll Do:

  • The incumbent assists and coordinates foster procedures to match potential foster agents with the animals.
  • Responsible for facilitating foster care orientations and managing case files.
  • Communicates with staff regarding animals scheduled to transition to foster organizations.
  • Notifies foster agents of the final disposition of animals.
  • Prepares and enters foster agents' and animals' information in the computer
  • Assists foster agents with adoption contracts when they wish to take in an animal.
  • Schedule animals for immunizations and ensures all paperwork is completed timely and accurately.

Qualifications

What You'll Need:

  • Completion of the tenth (10th) school grade; residence in the geographic area of work assignment; demonstrated interest in civic or community affairs.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or G.E.D; plus
  • One (1) year of experience working in a Customer Service role;
  • One (1) year of experience in inspection and code enforcement work to ensure compliance with animal control codes, ordinances, and standards;
  • One (1) year of experience working with animals in a professional capacity.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
  • Participate as an "Essential" employee in the department's snow and ice control program and other emergency or special activities as assigned.

E XAMINATION: Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be administered an online examination to demonstrate proficiency in administrative duties and computer software programs. Applicants must pass the online proficiency examination in order to be considered for this position.

DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY: Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.

ELIGIBILITY TO WORK:
  • Basic knowledge of economic and social characteristics of low-income neighborhoods.
  • Basic knowledge of acceptable kinds of behavior necessary for successful working with residents and groups in low-income areas.
  • Ability to keep accurate retrievable records.
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with others.
  • Ability to drive a passenger type vehicle.
