Erie Neighborhood House, a progressive social service agency serving the Chicago metropolitan area and dedicated to promoting a just and inclusive society, is seeking a full time (7am-3pm) Food Service Worker to work in our NAEYC accredited Childcare Program.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Site Director, the Food Service Worker’s basic function are receiving prepared, warming prepared to the correct temperatures, delivery of the food to the classrooms and cleaning/sanitizing of kitchen.

  • Complete inventory of prepared food delivery daily ensuring temperature of food meets the Board of Health/ State requirements and communicate with vendor if there are discrepancies.
  • Ensure that all food received is labeled with the date. Store in refrigerator, warming cart, freezer and or pantry, using oldest dated food first.
  • Portions food correctly into family style serving dishes and delivers food and proper serving utensils to the classrooms in a timely manner
  • Maintain inventory of food and ordering food on a weekly basis
  • Ensure the clean-up of dishes and food preparation areas in accordance with all Board of Health and state licensing sanitation practices
  • Assisting in washing and disinfecting sheets, blankets and children’s clothing (when soiled) according to Illinois Department of Children and Family Services licensing standards
  • Ensure the completion of DFSS daily food use forms and posts substitutions.
  • Create and update Child Allergy list for both the kitchen and classrooms as needed
  • Reviews and processes all site meal sheets in a timely manner
  • Ensure that the quarterly menus are submitted to the Nutritionist
  • Responsible for complying with Erie's, the Board of Ed's and all City and State licensing requirements and performance standards, including promoting the health and safety of all children, following sanitation procedures and universal precautions, completes a bi-annual physical exam that includes medical tests specific to the position.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be reliable and punctual
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Demonstrate the following qualities: self-motivated, self-directed, follows directions, makes good judgments, dependable
  • Current Illinois Food Safety Manager certification
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Upon offer of employment, must complete all forms related to hiring, including Erie’s application for employment and provide three letters of recommendation. Must complete all DCFS forms and submit to fingerprinting and a background check
