Food Service Worker Job at Cambridge Health Alliance

At CHA, our food service department plays an important role in the satisfaction of our patients and colleagues. Food service team members enhance the patient stay by delivering three quality meals a day to the patient’s bedside. Our Expressly for You program assigns each patient a dedicated Food Service staff member to take care of all of their dining needs. Meal orders are taken bedside and entered electronically via a tablet computer. This system interfaces with the hospital medical system, allowing for our hosts/hostesses to understand each patient’s unique dietary needs. In addition, the food service department operates a recently renovated cafeteria that caters to staff members and the general public including a salad bar with fresh and local ingredients, hot soups made fresh daily, a deli station, and an entrée station featuring favorite dishes. There is also a mix of snack and beverages, along with full daily breakfast offerings.
Job Summary
Serves the specified portions of all foods to cafeteria patrons as instructed by the supervisor or production manager.
Job Duties
Responsible for using the correct garnish on all entrees as well as garnishing ice bays. Ensures that temperature of food cafe refrigeration is properly recorded according to department standard. Operates cash register according to proper procedure. Verifies cash with managers. Maintains cafeteria and serving line in a clean neat, and orderly fashion at all times. Responsible for opening and/or closing cafe in a.m. and p.m. hours. Prepares salads and desserts for daily service according to standards of portion control. Sets up dish machine for day s service and generally sets up equipment in dish room for efficient operation. This includes barrels, bins, etc. and the stocking of cleaning supplies. Periodically strips trays from cafe , providing constant clean supply. Works in dish room. Strips and runs cafeteria and patient trays through the dish machine. Breaks down and cleans the dish room equipment. Performs various cleaning duties as scheduled on a daily basis. Ensures that cafe tables/chairs and floor are clean; clean trays are replenished. May perform related, routine kitchen duties as may be required. Prepares clinic floor supply requisitions and delivers to appropriate department. Accurately records requisition totals daily upon delivery. Understands and practices hospital/departmental safety guidelines and procedures including general safety, office (ergonomic) safety, fire safety, proper body mechanics, and proper patient/material handling.
Qualifications:
1 year related experience preferred. Average agility and long periods of walking, standing, bending, carrying, or pushing moderately heavy items (i.e. food carts). Must be fluent in the English language in a manner that promotes effective written and verbal communication skills. Requires the ability to be able to efficiently and accurately utilize portable electronic/computer devices. Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex and or to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question. Full use and application of basic diet information.
