Food Service Supervisor 1

The Special Commitment Centeris seeking an On-call Food Service Supervisor to join the team at Steilacoom, WA. This is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door with state service!

As the Food Service Supervisor, you are responsible for ensuring proper food handling, sanitation, elimination of safety hazards, proper care and use of equipment in the dining area and kitchen, and inspecting food inventory for proper rotation and usage.

Join the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA)as we support sustainable recovery, independence, and wellness through funding and delivering effective prevention, intervention, and treatment services for youth and adults with mental health conditions and their families.

Some of what you will do:

  • Maintain order and discipline among resident workers while they are working in all food program areas
  • Provide residents with supervision, training, and direction on daily food and diet production
  • Ensure that proper sanitation, safety, and use of equipment procedures are being followed
  • Receive and inspect supplies delivered
  • Complete daily worksheets, issue sheets, recipes, and other daily automated forms
  • Coordinate meal preparation, making modifications as necessary
  • Be alert and responsive to appropriate emergency protocol procedures for disruptive behaviors, destructive behaviors, and /or safety issues as applied to special commitment center residents

What we are looking for:

  • Supervisory experience in a kitchen environment
  • Current Food Handlers card within 14 days of hire
  • Understanding of principles, methods, and procedures involved in a large-scale food preparation and cooking operation
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, use problem-solving skills, and decision-making ability
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with management and coworkers

Who should apply?

  • An associate's degree in food service management, nutritional care, or a related field
  • Two years of experience in an institute or restaurant preparing or serving food
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
