SCHEDULE
Friday – Sunday; fourth day may vary. 10:30 AM – 7 PM shift.
Responsibilities will include assistance with general food production in the kitchen (Preparing, seasoning, slicing vegetables, as well as washing and slicing fruit and vegetables, preparing and plating various dessert items, preparing sandwiches and salads), washing dishes via commercial dish washing machine or hand washing, cleaning and sanitizing work areas, storing and stocking truck-delivered food items in walk-ins, walk-in freezers and dry storage rooms, and working side-by-side with other food service staff members as well as nursing staff and caretakers to plate and serve meals to senior living residents from food service hot or cold service lines and in the dining rooms.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Dishwashing - primarily utilizing a commercial dish washing machine; some dishwashing completed manually. Dishwashing utilizing the commercial dish machine is approximately 80% of the daily role; 20% is related to food production.
- Prepares assigned food items for the appropriate meal service. Including, but not limited to following production lists, recipes, washing, slicing and preparing raw fruit and vegetables.
- Assists with preparing the dining room for meal service. This includes, but is not limited to setting tables with silverware, napkins and beverage service and setting up meal carts prior to service.
- Works in a collaborative effort with the nurses and caretakers to deliver quality and timely meals for senior living residents; including placing meal items on plates for residents, delivering meals and beverages to tables, and fulfilling special meal requests for residents and resident caretakers/nurses as needed.
- Service clean up after meal service in dining room following established procedures.
- Follows proper laundry procedures when assigned. (Linen table cloths, cleaning towels, etc.)
- Follows proper cleaning procedures for all work areas including storeroom, walk-ins, reach-in refrigeration units, dish machine and dish room, and various equipment.
- Assists in and works special functions, catering events and other events as assigned. (Preparation, Service and Clean-Up)
- Assists in organizing, rotating and properly labeling / dating, stocking and storing food deliveries and supplies; keeping areas clean and maintaining sanitation.
- Maintain high standards of cleaning and sanitation; adhering to HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) principles to the operation.
- Attend meetings and serve on various departmental / employee / campus committees as assigned.
- Practices good safety and sanitation habits (which includes following dress code, wearing slip resistant shoes, proper hair coverings, proper use of gloves, back support, and equipment), and participate as a Safety Team member.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including those assigned by a Supervisor, Cook, Registered Dietitian, or Lead.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a minimum of 6 months quantity raw food preparation and production experience in a commercial, professional (back-of-the house) kitchen facility; 12 months of relevant commercial kitchen raw food preparation and production experience (preferred)
- 1+ years of both FOH and BOH (Front-of-House / kitchen and Back-of-House / Dining Room) food service cooking production and food service experience in a senior living community organization or healthcare facility (preferred)
- Ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in a variety of circumstances and to make sound judgments.
- Ability to report to work on time and complete the assigned work shift.
