This position is part-time, one day per week - typically Sunday. This position is open to individuals with prior food processing sanitation experience or those able to obtain certification through Spartan Chemical Clean Check Training Program which is provided by Star Snax. Previous PSSI experience is highly desired.

Headquartered in Conover, NC, Star Snax can service nearly 1/3 of the US population within 500 miles and ships across the US, Canada, and internationally.

Star Snax is a significant and efficient producer of tortilla chips and masa crackers with flexible production and packaging capabilities. We operate out of a 130,000 sq. ft. facility located in Conover, NC with nearby warehousing. We proudly employ over 125 associates and growing. Our products include Vegetable bases, Roasted Pepper, Chia & Quinoa, pumpkin seed, beet, sweet potato, and on-trend topical seasonings that include Bacon Habanero, Sweet & Spicy, Hot and Extra Hot, Nacho/Salsa, Ranch, Cauliflower, and more.

Position Summary: The Sanitation Team Member cleans and maintains assigned area(s) and equipment to meet and exceed the highest possible quality sanitation standards 1 day per week. Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary by day based on regular requirements and business needs but will be within the Master Sanitation Schedule required tasks.

Essential Functions:

  • You will perform duties as assigned by the Sanitation Manager/Supervisor and complete duties as assigned by the Master Sanitation Program Schedule on Sundays.
  • You will keep accurate records and documentation of the sanitation process and inspect for areas needing attention. Keep the manager informed of any unsanitary practices that may be occurring in the plant.
  • You work to maintain and improve the quality, integrity, and safety of each product and equipment used in their manufacture.
  • You will efficiently disassemble and assemble the equipment for proper cleaning.
  • You will visually inspect equipment and performance prior to the sanitation process, and after to ensure no damage is caused during the cleaning process.
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures to provide a safe working environment including complying with OSHA, state/local, and federal regulations.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly environment to protect the safety and health of others and to comply with federal regulations involving food processors.
  • Follows procedures for storage and disposal of waste and transport to designated areas.
  • Reports all maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Secures the facility, ensuring all exterior doors are always locked.
  • Ensures security of company assets by storing appropriately when not in use.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications

  • Previous sanitation experience is highly desired.
  • Ability to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to a respirator, eye and ear protection, jacket, pants, and gloves.
  • Experience with safe chemical handling or ability to learn/train and obtain certification through training program.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with and without supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 55 lbs., and standing/walking for 8 or more hours in hot and cold environments.
  • Must be able to follow basic safety procedures and precautions due to physical risks and exposure to hazardous chemicals
  • Must be able and willing to work Sunday, holidays, and accommodate occasional schedule changes with advanced notice.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus but not required.
  • Prior work for PSSI a plus.
