Pool Manager
Job Summary:
The food and beverage manager will report to the Director of Food and Beverage and is primarily responsible for overseeing the pool operations at Hotel Wailea. You will be tasked to ensure that guests receive attentive, personalized, timely, and accommodating service. Your position is designed to be creative in developing and curating unique experiences for pool. Additional duties will include managing the Birdcage lobby lounge as well as our in room dining department and guest amenity program. In addition to creating and evolving the program, you must hold yourself and the staff accountable financially, administratively, professionally, and managerially.
The Pool Manager will hold responsibilities in the following areas:
- Creating and enforcing service standards
- Developing and curating unique pool experiences
- Ensuring daily delighters are delivered to guests
- Creating/maintaining cleaning schedules
- Accurately receiving daily deliveries
- Staff Scheduling
- Supply purchasing
- Keeping the management team informed of the day’s events and guests of note
- Invoice processing
- Inventory management
- Maintaining Birdcage Bar Service Standards
- Ensuring quality of service
- Develop streamlined builds for specialty cocktails to limit guest wait times
- Drive Beverage Sales through knowledge and passion
- Maintain service standards and quality control by standards testing
- Lead the team in hospitality, guest correspondence and glitch recovery
- Implement service standards through disciplined administration of departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
- Develop the leadership skills of leaders in the department. This includes the development of decision making skills, performance management techniques, function planning ability, process mapping and analysis, and sense of urgency and ownership.
- Ensure effective working relationships and clear communication are maintained with all colleagues and leaders in the IRD department and other departments.
- Critically assess procedures, policies, and methods of operation and alter them where necessary in order to maximise results.
- Ensure the financial success of the department by monitoring productivity, revenues and costs.
- Liaise with the kitchen to ensure that a common vision is shared.
- Create and implement all beverage menus within the department as well as work closely with the kitchen on the creation of all food menus.
- Liaise with other food and beverage departments to ensure that all resources are being equally shared.
- To ensure departmental participation in all hotel-wide environmental initiatives, and to develop departmental specific environmental initiatives.
Our Ideal Candidate:
An ideal candidate for this position will have the following levels of experience.
- High school diploma or GED and at least 4 years experience in food and beverage, or related professions.
OR
- A 2-year degree from a university that has accredited Hospitality and or Hotel and Restaurant Management programs and at least 2 years of experience the food and beverage industry.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Leadership:
- Responsible for achieving the highest level of guest satisfaction while creating a fun, professional, and productive working environment for all staff.
- The Pool Manager will spend their time managing or assisting service in the following areas:
- Pool deck including cabanas, sit down dining areas, and lounge chairs.
- Pool kitchen.
- In Room Dining.
- Hotel Function Spaces such as the Birdcage, Anuhea Ballroom, and Pool Deck.
- Leads by example and is educated on luxury resort service standards.
- Ensures that all areas are cleaned and maintained using Hotel Wailea approved COVID-19 procedures.
- Ensures that regular and accurate communications is occurring between f&b personale and all hotel departments.
- Maintains a calm and collected demeanor when working under pressure.
- Mentors and develops staff.
- Serves as a role model for service standards and guest interactions.
- Checks the quantity and quality of all f&b related inventory and informs the Director of Food and Beverage of any items that need to be ordered.
- Monitors all Front and Back of the House areas to ensure they are clean and organized at all times.
- Monitors and supports hourly staff by maintaining pool presence and assisting staff and guests in any way possible.
Guest Relations:
- Expected to provide the highest level of service while letting their personality and passion for their job shine through.
- Interacts and connects with guests to ensure satisfaction.
- Communicates all information learned about hotel and regular guests to all necessary departments in the resort.
- Leads by example and constantly strives to engage with all guests and anticipate their needs.
Financial Responsibilities:
- Receives daily deliveries and ensures that the items delivered match the invoice.
- Assists with monthly inventory and payroll procedures.
- Actively manages labor according to business levels.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Ensures all employees maintain required certifications.
- Maintains strong professional relationships with guests and vendors.
- Works with members of the food and beverage team to review events and troubleshoot any possible conflicts or challenges.
- Effectively communicates and executes departmental and property procedures in regards to emergencies and ensures that all employees are properly trained.
- Ensures that all HR related items are handled according to guidelines set forth by Hotel Wailea.
Skills/Knowledge required to perform effectively:
- Previous hotels/resorts job history
- Previous F&B job history
- Training of others
- Experience using MICROS, OPERA, Excel, Word, Outlook
Equipment Use:
POS terminals, computers, and various pool equipment such as umbrellas/deck chairs
Educational Requirements:
High School degree or equivalent required.
Work Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of food and beverage experience, preferably in a luxury resort setting.
Knowledge/Training:
On-the-job training provided.
