First Responder Peer Specialist Helpline Counselor Job at 2-1-1 Broward
Are you a current or former first-responder ( Law Enforcement / Police, 911 Operator, EMT, Fire Fighter or paramedic) currently residing in Florida?

We are seeking compassionate helpers, motivated, goal-oriented, technologically comfortable, and enthusiastic individuals to fill the position of First Responder Peer Support Specialist.
You will be joining a fast-paced crisis, information, and referral helpline. As a First Responder Peer Specialist, you are responsible for providing peer support services, information and referral, over-the-phone care coordination, active listening, and suicide/crisis intervention to participants, as well as providing other agency support services specializing in supportive helpline services for first responders and their families.

First Responder Requirements: Minimum of four years of experience as a first responder, which includes law enforcement officer, firefighter, emergency medical technician, paramedic, or 911 telecommunicator
OR a volunteer law enforcement officer, firefighter, emergency medical technician, or paramedic engaged by the state or a local government is also considered a first responder of the state or local government for purposes of this requirement.
Schedule Requirements:
Part-Time minimum of 20 hours per week permanent, regular schedule
- All candidates must be available to work remotely/virtually 9 am-5 pm Monday-Friday for 12 weeks of the initial paid training in mid/late-October or December 2022.
- Note: the hours of operation of the Peer Support Helpline are 7 days a week from 9 am-8 pm. Shifts are flexible to meet yours and the agency's needs.
Workspace Requirements
- Must reside in the state of Florida for this position;
- Reliable internet; and;
- A secure, confidential, and quiet workspace.
- Laptop and headset provided by the agency
Education Requirements
Earned a high school graduate or equivalent (GED). A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as criminal justice is encouraged but not mandatory.
Additional Requirements
- First Responder and experience with first responder culture and concerns
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (bilingual - Spanish or Creole preferred).
- Ability to multi-task: handle crisis calls and enter data simultaneously.
- Proficient typing (30 wpm).
- Understand this position does NOT involve providing clinical therapy or meeting clients face to face. All services are conducted over the phone/provided computer system.
