Finance Cashier (Account Clerk III) Job at City of Phoenix

The Treasury and Debt Management Division, Banking & Cashiering section is looking to fill their Finance Cashier (Account Clerk III) position. The primary responsibility is to provide cashiering services related to the receipt, deposit, recording, and custody of the City funds for various City of Phoenix departments. These duties require the accurate and efficient handling of cash, balancing and preparing multiple deposits daily, and processing invoices, remittances and other paperwork associated with payments. Additionally, the Finance Cashier will serve as a backup in providing over the phone customer service for Notice of Violation (NOV) parking ticket citations.
Essential Cashiering Duties:
- Respond to over-the-counter inquiries and assist walk-in customers with City payments.
- Maintain security of area by properly accessing the City's point-of-sale system (iNovah), ensuring all negotiable items are locked up at night and follow cash handling procedures during work hours.
- Balance and close innovate workstation at the end of shift and notify Accountant I or Accountant II of any discrepancies with exceptions.
- Provide customer service over the phone for Notice of Violation (parking tickets) and other city of Phoenix Payments.
- Empty curb deposit boxes daily; pick up, sort, and distribute all mail received.
- Process and safeguard credit cards.
This position interacts with other areas in the Division/Organization. The majority of work assignments come from external customers and some interaction with other Finance divisions and departments, such as the Accounts Division for unidentified accounts receivable payments and refunds; the Tax Division and various departments for City of Phoenix payments; and the Police Department, Municipal Court, Public Works (badging), and IT Department, Parks, Aviation, and Police regarding NOV parking tickets.
The Finance Cashier reports directly to the Accountant II. The scheduled hours for this position are 8:15 A.M to 5:15 P.M., Monday through Friday, with specific days of the month for vacation/time-off.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Knowledge of banking policies and procedures.
- Ability to direct, review, and supervise the work of others.
- Ability to work in a heavy customer service environment.
- Provide excellent communication skills.
SALARY
$17.41 (minimum) - $25.35 (maximum) hourly / $36,212.80 - $52,728.00 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $52,728.00 depending upon qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years of bookkeeping and clerical accounting experience,
- Including experience in preparing financial reports.
- Supplemented by courses in bookkeeping and accounting.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Two or more years of experience with customer service face to face and over the phone.
- One or more years of experience with point-of-sale system.
- One or more years of cash handling experience.
- Experience working with computerized accounting systems such as Customer Care & Billing (CC&B).
- Experience working with software such as SAP.
- Experience in reconciling receivable and payable statements.
- Experience reviewing reports, logs, and audit of payment records.
- Experience in performing highly detailed data entry in a fast-paced environment and maintaining/auditing records.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
