RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and administer safety programs and training for a natural gas, water, and electric utility.
• Possess and apply a comprehensive knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, practices and procedures.
• Interpret and assure compliance with safety regulations and policies.
• Prepare and distribute educational materials and information, audit company facilities, and recommend actions for the correction of hazardous situations for compliance with OSHA regulations.
• Compile and submit required OSHA accident reports.
• Conduct regular site visits of field personnel to help identify and mitigate hazards and improve site safety.
• Work closely with the ALLETE / Minnesota Power safety team to accomplish department goals and priorities.
• May provide work direction for others; act in a lead role for safety-related investigations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial safety, industrial hygiene, or equivalent.
  OR
• Bachelor’s in an engineering discipline PLUS qualifying safety designation may be used as an equivalency.
  • Example for equivalency Certified Safety Professional through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Four years or more related experience required
  • An advanced/graduate degree in industrial safety, industrial hygiene, or equivalent may be used as an equivalency for up to two years of required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• This position will report regularly in person to Superior, WI.
• Experience with natural gas, water and/or electric utilities desired.
• This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
