Chemours is seeking a Field Crew Operator to join our growing Florida Operations team! This position will report to the Mining Coordinator at the TRS mine near Starke.
Responsible for the installation and maintenance of all internal mine infrastructure including roads, ponds, ramps, field pumps, power cable, slurry and water pipe to ensure the safe and efficient implementation of agreed surface mining plans. Role will support management of all water and slurry pipe onsite to include rotating to prolong life, conducting pipe fusion, bolting connections, and pipe relocation targeting minimal downtime while operating safely and avoiding pipe damage. Operators will also prepare mining pits for operations to include rim ditching and dewatering, field pump placement, support setup and execution of Mobile Mining Unit operations, and maintain tailings pits and tailings lines.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Daily Activities
    • Ensure all work is performed within company, state, and federal regulations, standards, statutes, policies, and procedures.
    • Identify and promote opportunities to improve mine safety performance, act as a safety leader.
    • Safely and efficiently operates various pieces of mobile heavy equipment, including bulldozers, tracked excavators, wheeled loaders, backhoe loaders, skid steers, tele-handlers and motor graders.
    • Build and maintain all roads, access roads and ramps as defined by the mine plan.
    • Install dewatering field pumps and pipe.
    • Monitor tailings discharge and manage tailings.
    • Monitor water levels in site ponds and active sand tailings area to ensure safe and efficient function of these structures.
    • Monitor and maintain all utility lines on and off the Mobile Mining Units.
    • Monitor and maintain all fuel tanks around the mine site.
    • Assist Mining Operations, Engineering and Maintenance Department as required.
    • Assist Engineering and Maintenance as required during scheduled down days.
    • Attend meetings and classes as identified by Southern Ionics Minerals, LLC/Chemours
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with other team members.
  • Goals for the role
    • Act as a Safety Leader to ensure individual and team Safety remain top priority in the planning and execution of all tasks.
    • Work closely with Company Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) personnel targeting zero incidents and continuous improvement of mine site EHS performance.
    • Continuous improvement in mining approach, encourage initiatives intended to reduce safety risk, increase production volume, improve efficiency and reduce operating cost.
  • Responsibilities
    • Work in a self-guided manner in the absence of supervision and demonstrate creativity, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate initiative.
    • Report all personal injuries and EHS incidents and assist with both safety and environmental investigations.
    • Clean heavy equipment and work vehicles as scheduled and ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all assigned work areas.
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
  • High School Diploma
  • Experience operating equipment preferred but not required to include tracked excavators, wheeled loaders, track type tractors (bulldozers), motor graders, and skid steers. Task training to be provided.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule and/or varying shifts and must be punctual in adhering to established start times; attendance at work is an essential function to the performance of this position.
  • Ability to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to use hands, fingers, and feet in a coordinated effort to move levers, depress foot pedals, and turn dials to operate power machinery.
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently ascends or descends ladders, stairs, elevated walkways, ramps and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Perform heavy manual labor when needed such as assembling pipe in different weather conditions.
  • Frequently lifts or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts or moves up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use various hand and air operated tools to maintain infrastructure equipment.
  • Position requires working near and around operating mechanical parts and mobile equipment and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations.
  • Ability to read and interpret various plans and designs.
  • Capable of wearing personal protective equipment, such as hearing protectors and respirators, as necessary.
