Intro/Program Description: Goddard Riverside Community Center operates early childhood centers for working families and their children aged 2 ½ to 5. Each center facilitates classroom activities that promote intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth through the hands-on exploration of science, nature and art.
Purpose of Position: The role of the Family Worker/Family Advocate is to provide a mixture of individual and group interventions with parents, care-givers, children and young people with additional needs up to the thresholds for social care involvement to improve outcomes for children and families. To work in partnership with parents to strengthen parental capacity and family relationships and to increase parental engagement in their local community and in their children’s education.
Schedule: Monday through Friday - 7:30am to 6:00pm (7.5 hour shift)
Salary: $31,296 - $35, 485

- Detail oriented record keeping
- Outreach and recruitment
- Intake and enrollment
- Eligibility determination
- Monitor and document attendance
- Obtain and maintain health records
- Develop and conduct parent workshops
- Maintain waiting list and classroom rosters
- Participate in staff development
- Coordinate home visits
- Develop an Individualized Family Partnership Agreement (IFPA) with each family
- Facilitate monthly classroom meetings, taking notes and attendance for review/follow up
- Develop partnerships with outside agencies that can provide assistance to our families
- Identify resources, initiate referrals and interventions
- Assist families in their transition from Head Start into Kindergarten
- Assist families with the CPSE process as indicated
- Assist with end-of-year events
- Escort parents and children to agency-wide and/or community events
- Comply with Federal, State, and Local regulatory requirements
- Some travel required to city agencies
- Other duties as required
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma minimum, some college-AA/BA preferred
- NYS Central Registry Clearance
- Work experience providing services to children and families
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Fluent in both English and Spanish
- Must be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with Early Learn or Head Start guidelines and program’s educational philosophy
Physical Requirements
- Lifting, bending, walking, climbing stairs

This position is classified as a union position under the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Day Care Council of New York ("DCCNY") and Local 205, Community and Social Agency Employees Union, District Council 1707, A.F.S.C.M.E., A.F.L.C.I.O. ("Local 205"),. The union represents employees in the bargaining unit (i.e. Goddard employees in Local 205 union positions). The Collective Bargaining Agreement is a written contract that defines the agreed-upon terms and conditions of employment, including wage increases, paid time off and other benefits, and the grievance process. All employees in Local 205 union positions at Goddard Riverside are subject to and covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Membership in the union includes the collection of union dues on a monthly basis, to be deducted from the member’s Goddard paycheck at a rate to be determined by the union.
