Intensive Family Therapist

Description of Service

The Intensive Family Therapy Program seeks to empower youths to reduce undesirable behaviors and achieve goals such as staying in school or maintaining employment. At the heart of this program is a multi-disciplinary team of four highly skilled Intensive Family Therapists that are trained in providing Multi-Systemic Therapy to youth and families. This team of therapists works closely together to help youth and families achieve recovery goals based on the strengths and needs of each family. Candidates who will thrive in the Intensive Family Therapist position are those who:

• Enjoy traveling to, and providing services in, an array of community settings in Caldwell, Gonzales, and Guadalupe counties – you will not be confined to an office and will be able to meet families where they need you most!

Under the general direction of the Director of Youth and Family Services and the Intensive Family Therapy Service Manager, the Intensive Family Therapist works with youth and their families at community-based sites such as schools, homes, juvenile detention centers, and Bluebonnet Trails Community Services sites. The Intensive Family Therapist provides direct clinical treatment to assigned families using methods compatible with Multisystemic Therapy (MST) principles and practices. The Intensive Family Therapist will receive compensated, specialized training in MST practices prior to serving youth and families.

More specifically, the Intensive Family Therapist will work with youth demonstrating challenging externalizing behaviors, such as substance use and criminal activity. This position will work closely with a small caseload of 5 youth and their families, providing caregivers with the tools they need to help transform the lives of youth. This position provides crisis counseling and intervention to individuals to reduce symptoms, provide education, and prevent admission to a more restrictive environment. This position also works with individuals and families to update demographic data, provides uniform assessments required by the state authority and Bluebonnet Trails Community Services, collaborates with individuals served to develop person-centered recovery plans, and provides rehabilitation therapies and documentation of services. In accordance with the MST model, the Intensive Family Therapist is expected to participate in a rotating on call schedule to provide caregivers with the tools they need to transform the lives of youth, to reduce criminal activity and other undesirable behaviors.

Rate of Payment

$47 per hour/ 40 hours per week

Eligibility

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in clinical or counseling psychology, social work and/or marriage and family is required. Fully licensed as an LPC, LCSW or LMFT, or in clinical supervision towards advanced licensure.

2 years’ experience post graduate experience working in a clinical setting, which at least one year includes working with families.
