Why does the job exist?
This position carries out a critical function in the Family Support and Early Intervention Division. The Family Infant Toddler (FIT) Program is a statewide system that serves infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities and their families in accordance with the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Part C grant.
How does it get done?
This position plans, coordinates and implements a system of early intervention services and required monitoring in accordance with state and federal regulations. This position analyzes and supports performance of FIT provider agencies in the southeast and southwest regions of the state, as well as manages statewide initiatives to promote quality early intervention practices. This position will also involve providing training of early intervention personnel.
Who are the customers?
This position serves infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities and their families by providing technical assistance and monitoring to contracted FIT provider agencies. The position does not work directly with families and children.
Ideal Candidate
- a degree in early childhood, special education, family studies, social work and at least 3 years of direct early intervention experience.
- experience working with Part C Early Intervention services/agencies
- experience working with families and children with developmental delays
- experience working with agencies serving children and/or families
- providing training and technical assistance for program improvements
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology and/or Family Studies/Services and four (4) years of any combination of experience including working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health and/or health care. Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated August 12, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
In addition, employees working in State correctional facilities who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to inmates are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. This position also requires travel for the purpose of visiting FIT provider agencies at their location of business for monitoring and technical assistance purposes. Some site visits may require overnight travel.
