Job Description
Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Specialist
Program: Migrant and Seasonal Head Start
Job Location: Alamosa, Colorado
Job Status: Full-time, 12-month position (March through November)
Salary: $38,000 to $42,000 annually

Supervision Exercised: None
Job Summary: To ensure the safety and good repair of all CDS Facilities.
Job Duties: 1. Adhere to Otero College Child Development Services policies and procedures.
2. Comply with Head Start Performance Standards and State of Colorado Rules and Regulations for Child Care Centers.
3. Support and implement the mission and goals of Otero College Child Development Services.
4. Encourage and support parent engagement in all aspects of the Head Start and Migrant and Seasonal Head Start programs.
5. Participate in all required in-service training and applicable workshops.
6. Work as part of a team to provide a welcoming environment for families and visitors.
7. Be an effective problem solver.
8. Report and document any suspected child abuse and neglect in compliance with Colorado law and agency policies and procedures.
9. Understand and implement Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Act, and Child Policies and Procedures as they apply to program management and supervision.
10. Perform major and minor maintenance services for all CDS facilities located throughout the San Luis Valley (Alamosa and Center).
11. Ability to assist with major and minor maintenance services for CDS facilities located in the Lower Arkansas Valley (Boone, Manzanola, Rocky Ford, La Junta, Las Animas, Lamar), as needed.
12. Develop repair priorities in collaboration with Facility Operations Manager, Executive Director and Center Managers.
13. Schedule all work in cooperation with center staff to ensure minimal disruption of program services.
14. Support custodian personnel to ensure completion of routine maintenance projects and daily cleaning tasks.
15. Perform both interior and exterior maintenance work as required.
16. Work with Facility Operations Specialist to establish a grounds maintenance plan and oversee at all centers.
17. Work with Facilities Operations Specialist to ensure all supplies, materials and equipment needed for grounds maintenance is ordered.
18. Perform routine and preventative maintenance on CDS equipment and buildings.
19. Report all completed work orders to Facility Operations Manager.
20. Assist Facility Operations Manager and Fiscal Manager with materials cost estimates, time estimates and labor estimates for each job before start of job.
21. Work with Federal, State and local agencies and organizations, to develop and monitor projects, procedures and cooperative ventures in order to insure the best interests of CDS are met.
22. Respond to emergency maintenance and repair needs as required.
23. Purchase materials and supplies according to Purchasing guidelines.
24. Perform all job duties in accordance with current codes.
25. Work is subject to inspection upon completion or while in progress.
26. All equipment, (i.e. power tools) must be operated following equipment safety guidelines.
27. Will encourage and support parent involvement in all aspects of the Head Start program.
28. Other program related duties assigned by supervisory personnel and/or Executive Director.
Qualifications/Skills: 1. Knowledge and experience in plumbing, finish carpentry, drywall, painting, mechanical, minor electrical and security systems. 2. Able to lift equipment and supplies. 3. Able to work independently. 4. Be computer literate with knowledge for Microsoft office programs as it pertains to your position. 5. Be eligible to work in a child care setting. 6. Hold and keep current a valid driver’s license. 7. Valid First Aid and Infant/Child CPR card and keep current or obtain within 30 days of employment if applicable to position. 8. Positive role model for children; language, dress, and behavior must be appropriate to a child care setting. 9. Show emotional stability and maturity. 10. Sensitive to cultural diversity. 11. Be able to establish an atmosphere of trust and respect with HS families, children and staff. 12. Able to adhere to strict standards of confidentiality. 13. Be able to work effectively as a member of a team. 14. Submit regular on-going medical statements signed and dated by a licensed physician or other health care professional, verifying that they are in good mental, physical and emotional health appropriate for the position hired for. Pursuant to State of Colorado Rules Regulating Child Care Centers and HS Performance Standards. 15. Demonstrate the highest standard of integrity, truthfulness, honesty and ethics. 16. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
