Summary/Objective
We currently have an opening for an extraction/processing department role as Extraction Lead, reporting to and working closely with the Lab Director to supervise multiple direct reports in all areas of Pre/Post/In-processing of botanical matter into direct use concentrates and other forms.
The goal of this position is to maintain the high level of quality we've become known for was well as working to increase efficiencies and outputs as we continue to grow and expand.
Responsibilities will also include reporting to the lab director on daily progress, overseeing and actively supporting the day-to-day manufacturing operations, maintaining quality standards, enforcing safety practices, and working with the team to meet production goals and deadlines.

Ideal candidate: Someone who has too much experience to be a tech, but not enough time in role to be a lab director. Someone looking to learn from others and has their own knowledge to bring to the table. Ideally able to hit the ground running (or close enough) with support from the Lab Dir. and is able to manage a small team under them.
The Extraction Leads responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing biomass for processing, performing extraction, post-processing, and cleaning/maintenance of equipment.
- Supervising Extraction/Lab Technicians in their performance of said duties.
- Maintaining a clean facility to the standards of medical cannabis production.
- Work with Lab Director to implement and maintain compliance to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Work with Lab Director to train new hires and continue skills and knowledge development in current team members.
- Keeping and filling out accurate and legible Batch Production Records (BPRs), entering information into Seed to Sale Tracking programs (METRC), and documenting maintenance and cleaning of equipment on the appropriate logs.
- Develop and Maintain a strong familiarity with the rules and regulations of the Ohio Medical Cannabis Program
- Demonstrate a firm commitment to Compliance with said Rules and Regulations. As this is a regulated medical market, non-compliance can carry heavy penalties for licensees.
The Extraction Lead is a direct report under the Lab Director, and there will be some degree of administrative responsibilities above and beyond general manufacturing duties and tasks.
While this position expects a candidate to bring a certain level of skills, knowledge and experience, there is also a high degree of learning that will take place as well. You will have to demonstrate an ability to learn quickly about a wide range of cannabis related information, including processes, chemistry, regulatory standards, testing, Lighthouse Sciences Products, and Cannabis Science. This should be viewed as a wonderful opportunity to learn first hand from some other highly skilled operators from Legal Markets in California and Colorado with over 20 years combined experience in processing!
Required Experience (bare minimum):
CLS Extraction Experience is a must, we operate an ETS MEP70 system, familiarity w/ ETS is a bonus but not a specific requirement.
Any other type of extraction experience is a plus but not part of our core model.
Post Processing: You should know how to make most standard outputs, we’ll teach and refine what you don’t know so if you’re not a master of diamonds on day 1, that’s ok just be upfront with us.
Pre-processing/prep: You should know how to handle biomass, how to pack socks, how to supervise the techs doing it. System cleaning, setup, etc…
Lab Safety/Good Habits
Recordkeeping/Compliance: Need to be able to keep up with and maintain good records, accurate logs, etc… this is something you should be familiar with. METRC experience a major plus!
Small-team management: Shouldn’t be your first time telling other techs what to do and how to do it.
Professionalism: You need to be able to set the tone for the team, provide a good example, and maintain high-standards.

Inspect materials and equipment for manufacturing operations.

Bring a critical eye to your daily tasks to be able to recommend measures to improve production process, methods, and equipment performance, while keeping product quality in mind.
Communicate effectively inside and outside your department.
Verify that all tools and equipment required for daily tasks are cleaned and maintained, and that areas tools and equipment are cleaned at the end of the day.
Notify Lab Director or Supervisors when repairs or adjustments to equipment are needed. Operator safety is of utmost importance, and any concerns are never to be put off for later.
Exhibits thorough knowledge of Lighthouse Sciences product mix and their corresponding line setups and Manufacturing SOPs.
Ensures that all work activities are performed with attention to the highest standards for quality, safety and compliance with all appropriate legal and food safety requirements and a focus on continuous improvement.
Ensure all required date records and logs are filled out accurately, legibly, and completely. This includes Batch records, pre/post task checklists, room and equipment logs, waste disposal logs, and any Seed to Sale Data Entries.
Ensures proper communication during changeovers between shifts.
Follow and enforce all company SOPs and Operational Guidelines.
Maintains a high level of safety awareness for an accident-free work place. Report any unsafe or hazardous work conditions or safety-related issues to Management.
Bring a ready to learn attitude through the door every day.
Willingness to fill in on other tasks as needed, We’re still a small (and growing!) team, “wearing multiple hats” is a necessity. Cross-training is emphasized.
Ability to read, interpret, and keep records on a variety of documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, formulas, and policy and procedures manuals.
Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene, as befitting someone working in a medical production environment. Beards, while not prohibited, may be required to be kept trimmed if they otherwise interfere with a fit test on PPE. Likewise, Hair must be kept to a length and/or style that is able to be contained within a hairnet or hat.
Ability to learn and abide by the Rules and Regulations of the MMCP.

Passion for producing high-quality cannabis medicine for patients in the OH program.
Required Education and Experience, Disqualifiers
High school diploma or its equivalent required.
MUST BE OVER 21 YEARS OF AGE AND ABLE TO PASS AN FBI LEVEL 2 BACKGROUND CHECK FOR STATE CLEARANCE. Look up list of disqualifying criminal infractions for employment in Ohio Medical Cannabis program prior to application if unsure.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must be able to write legibly for required hardcopy records.
Must be willing to comply with uniform and grooming guidelines as implemented for product quality standards and employee safety.
