EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Children’s Trust is seeking an Executive Director to lead, inspire, and impact policy and programs to advance our mission: to prevent and reduce the occurrence and trauma of child abuse and neglect. The Executive Director is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the organization’s operations, strategy and financial stewardship, including fund development.
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree; training and experience in fund development and organizational management and leadership; knowledgeable of non-profit fiscal management practices, including grant management; experience in non-profit administration, board governance and volunteer management is preferred.

We are one agency comprehensively serving the needs of children and families through a continuum of programs in prevention, intervention, and advocacy. Our programs include, Children First, Healthy Families Roanoke Valley, Children’s Advocacy Centers, and CASA: Court Appointed Special Advocates. Geographically our programs reach children and families in counties, towns and municipalities across the New River and Roanoke Valleys and extending west to Galax in Carroll County and east to Appomattox. POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director will manage, facilitate and lead the continued development and implementation of a comprehensive system for child abuse and neglect prevention, intervention and advocacy, producing exceptional mission impact and sustained financial health. This includes, but is not limited to, the development of new programs, the continuation of existing programs, program funding, community involvement, and public relations. Additionally, the Executive Director is responsible for day-to-day management of the agency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare and submit for Board action, an annual program plan and budget,
- Monitor operational revenues, expenses and cash flow and provide oversight of agency resources,
- Ensure preparation of accurate financial reports and oversee all internal controls to ensure compliance with fiduciary duties, financial plans, audits and tax filings.
- Procures and collaborates with accounting professionals in the completion of annual audits,
- Personnel management, including hiring, developing, supervising, and reviewing performance of staff,
- Develop and ensure the implementation of annual fund-raising plans to include fund-raising events, grant applications and monitoring of awards, and donor solicitations from corporations and individuals,
- Interprets the programs of Children's Trust to the communities through direct involvement and public relations programs, including personal contact, descriptive program literature and media interviews,
- Assist the Board Governance Committee in recruiting board members and providing Board orientation and training programs,
- Support all board committees by collaborating with the Committee Chairs to develop agendas and actively participate in all meetings,
- Educate, advise, and communicate with the Board of Directors in a regular and timely manner, and serve as an ex officio member with non-voting powers,
- Develop and recommend to the Board specific, written, long and short-range plans for the development of programs and services, and help facilitate the development of the strategic plan,
- Identify and Interpret industry and community trends to inform program development,
- Recommend policies to the Board and assist the Board in the formulation of policies for the effective and economical operation of the agency, ensuring implementation of the policies adopted by the Board,
- Administrative responsibility for maintenance of agency facilities, technological infrastructure, and regulatory reporting,
- Lead and guide the development of all programs, and oversee the implementation of program expansions and additions,
- Participate in committees and community initiatives aimed at the prevention of child abuse or advocating for abused and neglected children,
- Maintain working knowledge of community resources,
- Participate on state-level committees, as well as local committees and collaborations that raise the profile of Children’s Trust,
- Maintains appropriate relations with federal, state, and local government agencies, and with all community constituencies,
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
Training and experience in fund development and organizational management and leadership. Proven motivational, management and communication skills. Team building and leadership abilities. Experience in non-profit administration, and board of directors and volunteer management is preferred. Knowledgeable of non-profit fiscal management practices and grant management.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
